USH'S LORD OF THE RINGS GAME PART 3- The Tournament and the Traitor

Started by Peach132 pages

Hmmm, that is a good point, since she can do that.

This is going to be the most randomly amusing mix of a team ever.

Yay for the team!

Tally-ho, compatriots! We'll show these Arnorians what two Gondorians, a dwarf, and a half-elf are made of.

Though that sounds like a bad joke. Two Gondorians, a dwarf, and a half-elf walk into a melee...

Team it is then!

Bad news is, though, that you are not meant to actually kill other people during the Tournament. You are using blunt swordsd that hurt a lot but won't leave fatal injuries (hopefully!).

This means a. all wounds will be much more mild than normal and b. you don't get any bonuses you normally get from high quality weapons....

Next question- do people understand/remember the fighting system?

Well, apart from duelling, I haven't actually BEEN in any combat!

But they realise something isn't quite right....

It's an ano-melee!

Bwahahahaha......*hic*!

Pretty much just on the 'understand' side of the equation in that case...

Vaguely.

It's too bad that I can't stay back and shoot at the other team, since I'm much better with that than a sword...😛

Well, the important things to remember are:

- How well you can move around depends on your Manoeuvre skill in the armour you are wearing. This will also dictates who strikes first!

- You can split your offensive bonus defensively, to apply against nearby attackers. If you have a very low offensive score, best not do this- you need all you can get!

- There's a lot of luck in the system; we roll a d100 so even if you have a low OB you can go for a good roll

- Especially at low level, you run out of stamina VERY quickly. The higher your level gets, the more Wounds rather than stamina loss becomes an issue. Remember, in this fight wounds will be minor

- Flanking or rear attacking a foe gives considerable advantages.

- Remember your off-hand options; the simplest is a shield but there were a variety of off-hand weapon options available, described in the rules.

Other than that, you pick a target you are next to and roll against it each turn, hoping to land a hit!

Ooooo!

Menelacar dons his chainmail, grabs a sword and shield and prepares for a dust up!

So, let's make sure everyone knows about what we are about!

The important numbers to remember are:

Your offensive bonus with your weapon
Your defensive score
Your stamina
Your Manoeuvre rating in your current armour
Your off-hand option.

Let's hear them and see if you can come up with the numbers yourselves, else I'll put them in.

Errr...
Sword - 8
Defence - 5
Stamina - 74
Manoeuvre - -10 (not sure)
off hand - shield

One-handed Axe - 11 (base: 55)
Defense - 15
Stamina - 101
Maneuver (Chainmail) - 8 (base: -5)

I am not sure how the off-hand works. Talin does not have a shield, but can he use a sword as both his skill in axes and swords are one-handed? I don't know how that would work.

Also, I know quality bonuses aren't applying, but I think there is a +10 missing from my sheet for Talin's Item of Quality (the one-handed axe).

Lastly, I'm not sure how to apply my Background bonuses. If I have Nimbleness, should it be a base rolling of 5 instead of -5 on Chain?

Unfrtunately off-handing is a swordplay deal. If you are using a one-handed axe or blunt weapon, best to allso use a shield.

I'll check the other numbers soon.

Does one need a specific skill in order to use a shield effectively?

I'll look at the numbers tomorrow when I'm not half-asleep...and hopefully will actually remember how they work.

I'm still around, and interested in playing, but I need to figure out what to do.
But I should have some free time, and since Techno is done (for now) with messing with my brain, I can play other games! Yay!

Ok, let's see. Some of this might reflect in numbers in the Roll of Honoru that need updating

Menelcar's skill with 1h-edged is indeed 8, which gives a base bonius of 40, but he gets +3 to all such rolls as a Warrior, so his offensive bonus, as we call it, is 43. His defence is 5, his stamina is 74, and his chainmail only has an encumbrance of 35 rather than 45 due to its smart Elvish construction. With his base Manoeuvre skill in chain also being 35, this gives him a basic Manoeuvring score in his fancy chain of... 0! Which is pretty good actually.

Talin has a 1h-concussion of 11 which indeed becomes 55, and as a Dwarf he can use his concussion score for axes also. As a second level Warrior he gets +6 to attac rolls, and Lightning Reflexes give him another +5, making his Offensive bonnus a healthy 66. He actually has a +10 Dwarvish hand-axe that would make his base 76, but unfortuantely he'd probably kill people with that so he has to use a 66 standard for this fight. He's very agile for a Dwarf and also has the benefit of Lighting Reflexes which gives him an extremely useful defensive socre of 15, whilst his stamina is a very Dwarfy 101. He has a score of 8, counting as forty, in chain, which would make his Manoeuvre score -5, but Nimbleness does indeed make that a 5. He's good in that armour!

So that's all those scores- everyone happy to follow that logic?

Btw, Talin, you are still carrying around a very old +5 Rhudarian noble's sword with you. It's not really your style, but you may consider someone else might want it. Not for this fight of course.

Shields need no skill and you are allowed a basic shield for free at character creation. Shilelds add +25 defence against one nominated enemy each round.

Let's see if I can get this right!

Sword - 4 (20)
Defense - 2 (10)
Stamina - 33 (if I'm looking at this correctly)
Maneuver (rigid leather armor) - (4) 20, but I'll be honest, I have no idea where to get my actual score from there, or if that'd be it, or...
Shield would be handy, I suppose!

Man, I am so not a fighter! 😛

Menelacar eyes Talin's Rhudarian Noble's sword.....

"My, THAT'S a nice sword..." he comments...
