USH'S LORD OF THE RINGS GAME PART 3- The Tournament and the Traitor

Ellothiel- numbers look right!

However, you need your off-hand free for decent magic use. Try your 'sheild' spell instead, which in LOTR terms is more of a protective charm than a forcefield (remember, magic in Middle-Earth is subtle).

Though if you don't plan to use any magic in a fight... may as well use a shield! I think with yuor available spells right now that is likely.

I think, for now anyway, I will stick with the actual physical shield for this fight instead of using the shield spell. After all, the main reason Ellothiel is participating is because she can heal the rest of the team between rounds, and it'd be no good if she used up all of her spell points and thus couldn't do that...

Fair enough!

That being the cae, I think we are more or less ready to begin. Your first fight is against a bunch of Cardolani recruits, who like many of you are keen to gain fighting experience.

These things are straight out fights in a small field fought until one side submits; proceedings will be halted if anyone gets too seriously injured and it is 'not done' to try and deliberately injure someone so.

Did you have any particular tactic you wanted to emply? Your foes are all Level 1 Warriors.

Ellothiel keep close to Talin I think, Anglomir and Menelacar pair up.
How does that sound?

I think it sounds like a fair idea.

Try not to get in the way of Talin's axe!

Well, you guys are all out on the field, with a bunch of cheering onlookers all around. This is one of those events that drawa all sorts, peasant and noble alike.

Your Cardolani opponents grimace at you, surprised to see the multi-racial line up, and not being entirely sure where Ellothiel fits in that.

Menelacar does a few limbering up exercises, stretches and the like, taking his sword at each end and stretching up and behind his head, before cocking his head to each side.

I would hope that Ellothiel would be able to avoid being hit by Talin!

And hee, yay for confusing people...something she is likely quite used to by now!

Anyway, she will be checking over her sword and shield, making sure everything is fine, and also looking over their opponents.

"I am not the best with a sword, I must warn," she says to the rest of the team. "So I shall try and stay close as best as I can. I will be the most useful between rounds, as I have some healing abilities."

Anglomir sees Talin's Rhudarian sword, recalling when they first recovered it from the Dunlendings during their journey to protect the Princess Mallachiel.

"Not quite the quality of my sword," Anglomir says, as he removes the ancestral weapon from his belt and sets it to the side as he adopts the wooden weaponry required for the melee fight. "But it does bring back memories of the not-to-long ago..."

He does a few practice swings with the wooden weapon to see how it balances. "Healing, eh? Most useful, I'm sure. No worries, Ellothiel... we will protect you."

One-handed Sword - 8 (56 w/ Nimbleness & Lvl 2 Warrior)
Defense - ? (I'm not sure how to figure Defense, it's not listed in my sheet)
Stamina - 82
Maneuver (Rigid Leather) - 7 (45 w/ Nimbleness)

Upon Menelacar's comment on the Rhudarian sword, Talin seems to consider something. "We can discuss its ownership after the fight if you would like. I am not accustomed to using swords, though I am capable."

Talin agrees with Menelacar's plan for the Gondorians to pair up while Talin covers that weakling Half-Elf with no fighting skill...

"My friends," Menelacar says to his team, "we are all foreigners here. Cardolani, Arthedainian - all were once the same and may yet become so again. Today we fight for the pride of our nations and to show these Arnorians what real warriors look like!"

"Fortunately, Ellothiel, you have a dwarf to look out for you. That is, of course, if Elves need Dwarves to protect them..." He then winks at the Elf!

Anglomir afraid that is 46 on your offensive bonus. Nimbleness adds nothing to that, and you don;'t have your sword with you!

Your Defence, if nothing else (which it very often is not) is Agility base,d so yours is 5.

In your Manoeuvre skills, I seem to have missed something which has caused an error. Rigid Leather is maxed at 5- please feel free to reinvest the extra point into another armour type.

That gives you a base skill of 25 in Rigid Leather, +5 for Agillity, plus 10 for Nimbleness, gives you 40. Then we take 30 away for the encumbrance of Rigid Leather itself, giving you a Manoeuvre score of... 10! Pretty quick.

Your stamina I make to be... let me see. Base of 10 (5 plus your Constitution bonus), plus 18 for being a Man, and 27 for both levels of Warriorness makes.. 82 indeed!

-

Keeping it simple, they are all sword/shield equipped. So we have Cardolani A, B, C and D. The ground is pretty even and wide, so Manoeuvre rolls are only needed if you want to be a bit fancy to get around to the side or behind someone- assuming their attention is already occupied!

-

Talin's blade is indeed only a decently made weapon, not a super-elite one, but it was genuinely a Rhudarian minor noble's weapon, and hence of Dunedain make, and Menelacar is not sure about a Dwarf having such a thing (though better that than the Dunlending it was taken from).

OK, having not been in combat before, what do you need from us Ush?

"The dwarf may feel free to try and look out for me so long as he does not smash my knees," Ellothiel says teasingly.

And yeah, the only 'combat' I've done before was practice fencing with Darvan and that was a long time ago so I don't entirely remember it...

The important things I need are:

a. Who you are attacking

b. Whether you are applying any of your offensive score defensively against a target

c. If you are next to more than one foe, which one you are using your shield against.

OK, well I guess I will go for one of them - say A - and with no defensive. He who dares wins!

Talin grumbles about the wisecracking Half-Elf commenting on his height, but keeps it to himself.

Talin will take a shield, and go in for the attack against Fighters C and D. He will use his shield against D and attribute 20 points of his defensive score against D, while going all out against C.

Is that right?

Sure, they'll team up on the stumpy Dwarf!

Ellothiel will go for Fighter D, and won't put any of her offensive score to defense (that's what her shield is for).

Anglomir will follow Menelacar's lead and go full out on the second competitor of the opposing team, shield out in front and sword held high.
