lolwut? The Wii was still the one winning the 'war' last I checked. Again though, I don't care.

I said like 3 replies later that that was just a joke.

Micro$oft will release another half-baked console, but the PS3 will be here to stay, considering the fact that until now the console has not been fully utilized to its max potential... A whopping 1.8 TFLOPs of GPU!

Whao, whao, hold on. 1.8 TFLOPs? Where did you get that one from? The GPU of the PS3 is closely based on nVidia 7800 series which, very roughly, has about 200 GigaFLOPs, give or take a hundred(depending on the method used to calculate it, etc.).

Seriously though, stop using FLOPs to calculate 'power' or 'potential.' They don't work that way, especially when it comes to gaming. For example, ATI GPUs have had consistently more FLOPs than nVidia cards. Now take an ATI and an nVidia GPU that can churn out close to, say, a TFLOP. You'll see that the nVidia card is 2-3x times faster in gaming, sometimes even more(depending on the settings and so on).

Another example: the vaunted Cell processor can churn a whopping ~1TFLOP as opposed to the most powerful 'conventional' PC processor, the Intel i7 980XE, which can only do roughly 10x less than that. However, the 980XE absolutely curbstomps the Cell when it comes to gaming and pretty much anything else other than Floating Point Calculations.

For producers, selling power is important.

But for consumers (the gamers themselves), quality > selling power every single time.

Consumers don't really give a damn about how much the game will sell, unless he/she/they are brand loyalists or bandwagon hoppers.

It's the experience, the enjoyment, and the amazement that counts. At least most of the time.

Quality is subjective.

I think Halo is absolute crap. I think sports games are a waste of money. I think Metal Gear Solid is a glorified movie with some points where you shoot things. And yet they always sell very well. They always garner high ratings.

The PS3, with games like Heavy Rain and Uncharted, may very well have higher quality games. But as far as the general public goes...they still don't sell nearly as well as Gears of War or Halo.

Heavy Rain is more of a glorified movie than MGS ever has been...

Well, yeah. It's intentionally designed that way.

Difference is, you're actually playing the movie, as opposed to just sitting there watching stuff with a little bit of actual gameplay in between. Also the fact that your actions have enough of an effect on the game that there's something like 27 different endings is pretty neat.

That's not really true though. There's hardly any long parts without you interacting in Heavy Rain, I've sat staring at my screen for two hours without touching the controller in MGS4...

RTS's ARE INTERACTIVE MOVIES.

I remember I just skipped all the cutscenes in the first MGS back in the day when I didn't really care and sucked at English. I would do the same today.

I'm still surprised Microsoft didn't announce a sequel console. They're prolonging the 360 with a Kinect instead, which is... meh...

I like the idea of the kinect really, not necessarily as game controller but as general control method. Perhaps they can try it out this generation and then make it awesome the next.

And the PS3 WILL continue to catch up, even after this gen is over.

How in the world do you figure that?

I doubt the PS3 is going to catch up at the moment. Also Move blows, I stick with the wii until the move has more solid games for it.

Well...something very similar to Kinect was already attempted.

Not nearly as high-tech, but yeah 😛

I nearly forgot that thing existed. Had some crap exclusives for it.

Yeah, it never caught on at all, I remember back when it first came out.

Yeah, but Sony didn't seem to want to continue in that direction. The potential for this is huge though. You could control all your media just with gestures and voice....

Well, that's cos the Eyetoy never caught on.

However, yes, with the better technology available now, along with the fact that consoles do more, means that it's got far more potential right now. Like I said earlier, I don't think it will be much of a commercial success. However, I do think it will definitely catch on, for casual gamers and more niche stuff. Assuming that they do manage to make it work well.

I own an Eye Toy. I actually had a blast with it when I was younger.

My friend also tried to argue the Kinect was original. He really had no argument when I mentioned the Eye Toy.

I personally don't buy the whole "potential" thing anymore.

Ps3 is the front runner by leaps and bounds imo.

Though certainly not by hardware sales, software sales, consumer impression, reputation, exclusives...
