The "midfield Beckham"? Since when did Beckham not play in midfield?

So what's the ideal midfield for England?

Gerrard---Hargreaves (holding midfielder starting?)----Lampard---Cole?

Where do Lennon, Walcot and Wright Phillips fit in if Gerrard is on the left side? Do you think Dyer deserves a starting job in the English midfield?

I'd say Joe Cole on the left, Hargreaves and Gerrard or, but not AND Lampard (that would have to be decided on current league form, so Lampard right now) in the center, and Lennon on the right.

Dyer isn't good enough to be in the England squad at all in my view. Walcott still has someway to come before he is either. Wright-Phillips is good, but Lennon is better. Despite Carrick's strong form for Man United, I think Hargreaves brings more to the team. Joe Cole is a no brainer. I think England miss him more than anyone else.

richards - terry - ferdinand - cole

lennon - gerrard - hargreaves - cole

I think the World Cup could have been different if Owen hadn't gone down, Rooney is not good as the forward striker, he does better when he's back a bit further in support.

Owen's a mug.

**** Joe Cole as well.

I'd have the same midfield as that, but with Lennon instead of Cole.

I'd rather play the 3-5-2 though. Make use of the glut of centre backs, accommodate the midfielders, remove the left wing problem (Ashley Cole), and remove the Gary Neville problem (Gary Neville).

Joe Coles a mug cant stand him, but you have to admit hes a class act, his only bad point isn't a 'natural' winger, he doesnt stick to the line like Bekham did other than that hes a class act.

I don't think he is a class act. He's like a less talented Ronaldo without the (occasional but becoming more frequent) final product.

Joe Cole reminds me of those kids who play football, doing skill when there's nobody around and shouting their own name in a suppressed way, as if commentating.

Every time Ashley Cole made any kind of a break (I think, for England), he would just start trying to come in off the wing and go round people to score.

Haha, I meant more known for being central than Beckham, or MORE central than Beckham anyway.

Huh. Joe Cole's awesome, he was the only player who looked even remotely dangerous going forward for England during the World Cup (along with Lennon).

Because they had a shit team and the man is greedy, as my claim was to suggest.

-AC

Yeah he is a Greedy player, but in a way i like that, He doesnt go backwards (Like the entire English team does) he's constantly in spaces but are team are to ****ing busy playing it around the back four.

One thing i can't stand is that people seem to think his goal, against Sweden, was better than Maxi Rodriguez goal against Mexico.

It's not always a bad thing to be greedy. And it wasn't better than Maxi's goal, but it was still incredible.

Says more about England than him, to be honest.

With Joe Cole, it never ever seems like he could regularly produce a goal that good. Well not regularly but...ever again. With Maxi or whatever, it seems like it's not impossible.

Because it would be unfair just to say one was better for no reason, both great goals, but I do step back and think "Could he do that or goals of that calibre again?".

I never criticise referees and i'm not going to change a habit for that prat

I like the three defenders idea, but it's not very English in design. My team would look like so:

--Carragher-----Terry----Ferdinand----
----------------Hargreaves---------------
--Lennon--Gerrard--Lampard---Cole---
--------------------Rooney----------------
---------------------Owen-----------------

Why is it that all the other 'top' international teams have a midfield and attack that is fluid and dynamic with players interchanging and over-lapping, while England have square pegs in round holes, and players who stumble around like their feet are stuck in blocks of clay?

Oh, right...It's 'cos the coach is shit, isn't it? Or is it that we've just got shit players?

(Aaron Lennon excluded, of course...)

I think you should also exclude Steven Gerrard from that as he is brilliant, maybe not at present but he will be again.

England are a bad team. Good players, bad team. Bad manager too.

Wait a minute...you...you...yeah...you sign your name 'AC', but your post appears under the name of 'chillmeistergen'. I'm confused, it's all too sophisticated for me.

I actually think Gerrard is a better player than Lampard, but I mainly base this opinion on him being called 'Steven' rather than 'Frank'. FACT.

4-3-3 would be a great formation
