If Yoda had a chance to destroy Sidious he would have..that's why he went to confront him in the first place. This whole nonsense about his saber being destroyed and that's why he ran...Ok...So? Does that make Sidious any less the victor then? Is there an unwritten rule in Jedi/Sith duels that destroying the opponents weapon is forbidden? And to take the other side, if Sidious could have destroyed Yoda he surely would have. He would have killed him in his office or in the senate instead of allowing his enemy to escape. Noone won the fight, however, in my opinion Sidious won the day. Yoda escapes to exile while Sidious escapes to a throne where he rules the galaxy for twenty some years. However, examining the picture on a larger scale, Yoda eventually wins over Sidious by living long enough to give Luke a leg to stand on thus turning Vader back to the Jedi path and killing Sidious. This fight is much larger than that one fateful day in the senate rotunda.
Palpatine was playing with Mace Windu, and making himself look as if he was going to losse so that Annikin would be forced to make a choice, that was obvious.
And yoda had problems with Dooku in Part 2 an apprentice so I can´t imagine him winning against Sidious.
And there is nothing mentioned about crystals in the proper original star wars movies.
Palpatine was faking with Mace
It was all part of his master plot to turn Anakin to the dark side. Thats why he made it look as if Mace was showing him no mercy. He even looks over to Anakin with a grin at one point knowing he is about to manipulate him into turning to his favor. Its also why he makes pretend he has no power left and is on the verge of death but then comes back with more power then he used in the entire fight when Anakin cuts of Maces arm.
honestly i think palpatine could have taken out mace. mace may have beaten him in terms of saber skill, although thats in debate too becuase im seasonably sure palatine knew anakin was on his way. when palpatine was using force lightning on mace he was making out that he was too weak. even when he stopped he was making out that he was barley strong enough to survive even without mace killing him. however as soon as anakins turn was cemented palpatine smiled and yelled that he had unlimited power. then after using even more force lightning stood up without breathing hard. i know alot of you will come up with some excuse like he was almost dead and all of a sudden recovered and would have lost without anakin. i think if anakin hadnt swung palpatine would have taken out mace just before the saber hit him. although he may have known anakin would swing and not have bothered with anything, like he did in rotj when luke tried to kill him and he just sat back and let vader stop him. against yoda i think it was very close, and had yoda not fallen back so far he may have won, but i still doubt it, if you read the book he knows hes losing and knows hes of more use to the galaxy alive than dead. also when he got to sidious he lost his lightsaber, i think their too even in force powers for him to make up for it, where as sidious knew he was stong enough without it to finish mace if he had to. that said, sidious beats mace without being in serious danger, it would be a struggle, but he wins without too much risk, and beats yoda with alot of trouble.
palps was a worthless peice of shit, he is so crap!!! yoda is the most powerfull jedi EVER! he would of ttl killed palps in a different enviroment, only reason he had to run was because he had lost his saber due to palps cowerdly launchin those chair things at him! even when he was chaught off gaurd in the lightnin battle he still won! palps sucks, plus yoda was sumthing like 789 in this film, imagine yoda in his prime, nothing could touch him!!!!!

Man just listen Palps is strong propbably stronger than Mace (Debatable), but Palps is weaker than Yoda.
Reasons: THE FIGHT
Look at it again and you will see what I mean. Yes Sid hit Yoda first with lighting but he obviously thought it was strong enough to knock him out because he then said it was over. Yoda got up and threw sid across the room.
Then sid tries to flee thinking he could die. Yoda stops him.
Next they engage in a Saber fight. It looks like to me Yoda is the aggressor throughout this fight.
Next sid takes it long range making me think he did not want to take on yoda close so he moved it to long range where he thought he had an advantage. Now yoda is still trying to get close but sids won't let him so then Yoda decides to catch one of the pods.

Yoda then throws the pod back at sid now instead of catching he jumped out of the way. That basically told me he thought he couldn't stop it. Yoda stopped his stood there and just caught it sid didn't do the same.
Next Yoda manages to get close but once again sid wants nothing to do with a saber fight so he hits Yoda with his most powerful attack. Sid unleashes a lighting attack at full power to straight kill Yoda.

Yoda took Sid's most powerful attack and bounced back at him. The knock back throws them both backwards, but Yoda takes the worst fall of the two but he is back up now his lightsaber is destroyed by the fall NOT sid so Yoda's main way of killing him is gone. Troops are coming Yoda can not continue the fight.
Reason#2: The reason Yoda went
Yoda went there to kill sid qiuckly Yoda knew this would be at his most vulnerable. Now when his window of oppurtunity was gone even though he was clearly stronger throughout the fight there was nothing more he could do just to many people were there now, and sid still tells everyone around him to go find Yoda not himself.Yoda could have gone back and tried to kill Sid but then if he failed there would be no second for the jedi outnumbered and weaponless yoda took the logical choice.
