Let's try and think that part out on Dumbledore's view.
Like if he should die, would it be better or worse for the general wizarding population? Could his survival save lives? And if so, who do you think he would choose, Snape's life over many potential victims?
Of course it'd be worse. He was the most powerful wizard at that time on the good side. IF he died, the general good wizarding community would be in despair, their morale drop like a stone.

a part of me still hopes he's still got a bit of good in him though, and the pieces do fit (for his good side i mean) but....
how can he trick voldemort??that's the only thing that still nags me....
hmm..i thought about that.then i figured,if he does want to stay in Dumbledore's good books until the last minute when it's too late for D,he'll have to stay low right?
once again,i really want to believe snape's still good, and am very much persuaded to do so but that question still nags me!!
how can he trick the greatest, most accomplished legilimens ever that he's on his side (if he were really good)?? yeah he's a really good occlumens but is that really any match for voldemort's powers?
Snape:
-kills dumbledore
-duels the crap out of harry and tries to torture him
-betrays the order
-nearly caused the death of Bill, a fellow Order member
-sets hagrid's hut on fire
Okay...he did kill Dumbledore. There were several factors there. He was protecting Draco, who had Greyback breathing down his neck because he was hesitating. Dumbledore told him to do it when he said, " Severus...please?" and he was bound under the Unbreakable vow.
Yes, he dueled Harry, but he did not perform *Crucio* on him. Yes, Harry threw out spells, but do you really think that Snape couldn't have finished the spell...it's one little word and he could dodge Harry's spells easy. He was showing Harry that he wasn't strong enough to do what he was attempting so that Harry would learn and become stronger. ANd he stopped the other Death Eaters from hurting Harry.
There is no evidence at this point that he did not act on orders. If Dumbledore had told him to kill him...then he was working on the orders of the Head of the Order of the Pheonix. We won't know this as a fact until book seven though, but all signs point to it.
Snape did not attack any Order member and was not even present when Draco unleashed the Death Eaters and Bill was attacked. Snape knocked out Professor Flitwick to keep him from going to the battle and getting hurt. He also sent the students in to check on Flitwick to keep them from harm. He rushed past the battle and did what he had to do and protected his beloved student Draco. Then he called retreat tothe Death Eaters before any more harm couldbe done rather than allowing the battle to continue.
He set Hagrid's hut on fire to keep him distracted and away from the danger. He knew Hagrid would be killed if the Death Eaters other spells didn't seem to be working on the giant man. He sent him away to keep him alive.
I really don't believe Snape is evil. I'm not a Snape fan, but we have to really look at what happened rather than the fact that someone we love is dead.

OH yeah, and torture Harry. If he was still on the good side, there was no way in hell he would have used a Unforgivable Curse on Harry, no matter what his feelings.Snape:
-kills dumbledore
-duels the crap out of harry and tries to torture him
-betrays the order
-nearly caused the death of Bill, a fellow Order member
-sets hagrid's hut on fireAnd you still think he's on the good side?
*sad attempt to envision*Snape:"Okay, I was working for Dumbledore the whole - "
Harry: "AAAAAAAAARRGGH I'LL F*CKING KILL YOU B***H!!!!"
Hagrid: "Tha' motherf*cking sunuvabitch!!!!!!! Git' 'im, Grawp!"
Grawp: (loud roar)
Snape:"WAAAAAHHHHHHHAAAAAAAA!!!!!" fear*audible squish*
Did you even read the book?
Snape did not use an unfogivable curse on harry, all he did was block HARRYS attacks, Also the it was the werewolf who nearly killed Bill.
So your post = Invalid

So closed minded...Hagrid overheared dumbledore and snape arguing, maybe because dumbledore was telling him he might have to kill him.
Also if snape didn't kill him snape would have died because of the unbreakable vow.
And notice the choise of words dumbledore used?
He didn't say 'Severus no' or 'severus don't' he said 'Severus.. Please'.Im sticking to this theory, SNAPE FOREVER!
I'm with ya! When I first finished reading I was like Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, you bastard, you killed Dumbledore
but after some thought, I still want to stick by Snape's a good guy theory...
