I've been thinking about this for the longest time but I've never brought it up. I may completely misinterpret the situation but, Coyote Starrk was so lonely that his soul split in two just so that he wouldn't be lonely anymore, hence the birth of Lilynette Gingerbuck. But Starrk's released state was nothing but a merging of the two. Why is that? At one point they were one and the same. Does that mean that Starrk's didn't have a unreleased state until the split?

Problem: Starrk had two different release states since he was once one singular being. He then split and when he releases in his split form, he becomes one being, again.

Solution:
Starrk's released state before splitting: the form he had after he released the one and only time we saw it.

Starrk's released state after splitting: the form he had after he released the one and only time we saw it.

Considering he was a Hollow before the split, yes, he didn't have an unreleased state.
