I get the approach via shintoism. That isn't an issue. Truth be told I sometimes feel sorry for innanimate objects I have to throw away, as if I'm doing harm to their soul or something.
That's awesome that you think that. (Seriously)
I always thought you were one of those raging atheists (I just assumed). Some part of me thinks that part of animism is true, as well..but it may just be the "gaia" concept: all of the inanimate objects and non-sentient organisms are part of the greater soul/being known a the earth/gaia. Sounds like new age hippy crap, but it makes sense to me.

No... What's confusing the hell out of me is the same as what several people have already pointed out. If Shima wasn't directly affecting the past and was soley messing around with memories alone, then how in the hell did that trap get set from the ground?
You didn't get to read all of my posts on this. Basically, all fullbringers can manipulate the souls of stuff around them. I used the example of Ginjo pulling the alcohol to his mouth.
Each fullbringer affects souls a bit different but they can all change them in some way (be it memories, shape, or state).
So Tsukishima changing the physical actions of the soul, of the ground, is just an extension of both his particular brand of fullbring AND the ability for a fullbring to physically be able to manipulate the soul of stuff...even inanimate objects (which are supposed to have souls in Kubo's universe).

Am I supposed to take that as the ground instinctively coming to Shima's defense in the same manner Ighico's friends did?
No, Tsukishima manipulated the grounds' soul's memory and physical configuration.

I'm inclined to believe not because Shima states he set that up, and he calls it out before it happens, so it doesn't look like it was the environment coming to his aid, but rather something he actually DID to effect the physical environment of the present. But then again, there's the issue of him only changing the "past" of the single person he's targeting so it doesn't look like he's actually affecting the past but rather memories like you suggested. The boobytrap issue is a massive inconsistency to this notion though.
Of this, I agree.
He is manipulating the memory of the soul...but combines it with the physical alteration that fullbringers have.
Even if we assume that he actually alters the past of the soul...he still affects the memories of that soul so we are stuck with the same outcome, no matter what: he changes the memories.
Kubo still contradicted himself.

I guess the easy answer is what's already been stated about Kubo's writing.... "talents" making it up on the fly.... but it IS confusing.
Yes, Blaxican nailed it. Kubo is an idiot.

As for the fullbringers and spiritual pressure. I kind of assumed that they just didn't have any, that their powers were.... more physical than spiritual.... or something.
This is also something that I hold "in secret" but will not voice because I have to be right. 313
