Who's really worse, the one who holds back one ability out of pride but otherwise fight to his best (and who isn't that good with the one ability anyway), or the ones who could end all those petty fights with ease/ensured that the failure of one member didn't leave a hole in the defense?

Didn't Ikkaku say he didn't reveal his Bankai because he wants to remain in the 11th squad and fight under Kenpachi or something?

That may be anime only...

But Ikkaku is technically no doing it so he doesn't get promoted. He could always reject it...so that may be PIS. But he may not reject the offer to become a captain because of his strong sense of duty....so MAYBE...he keeps it a secret because he won't refuse captain status, which makes him lose his position as an underling in the 11th squad?

But I don't agree with that last part. Ikkaku's Bankai is fairly powerful. Poww was beaten rather quickly once Doggy pulled out his Bankai.

Ikkaku's bankai isn't that strong, at least not unless it charges up. Remember the first time he pulled it out, he still barely won and Edrad inflicted a ton of damage on him, to the point that Ikkaku lost the ability to maintain bankai. Ikkaku even noted that starting out it didn't have enough reiatsu to intimidate Edrad.

Considering also that it granted no defensive power, I think it'd probably have just meant Ikkaku could cut Poww a few times, or made him use his release, before going down, but he was still solidly outmatched.

Mostly he just had the bad luck of facing an opponent too strong.

Yes. If they found out he had a bankai, they'd probably just immediately give him an Lt slot and groom him to be captain, but he's ultimately Lt level +Bankai right now, not captain level.

@Dew Demon

If he cared that much about duty, he'd have gone Bankai. The only thing Ikkaku cares about is fighting and serving under Kenpachi. Does Kenpachi even like Ikkaku?

@Q99

I think he would have won. Mostly cause it still had tons of power. He was unfortunate enough to get the strongest opponent though.

This doesn't change the fact that he didn't do everything in his power to fulfill his duty. It's not like he was never given the opportunity either.

But with shikai he didn't even wound Poww, and aside from being the strongest unreleased, Poww also had a very strong release.

With bankai, he could've fought, but one or two blows from the released form would've finished him.

While true, it's a problem incredibly common in Soul Society, and for reasons often more petty than being dedicated to fulfilling one's life ambition.

There were several people in a position to prevent that pillar from falling. Ikkaku was merely in a position to make the enemy bleed a little more while it fell anyway.

Well Ukitake was incapacitated and Shinsui's sword is a ****. And I wouldn't be surprised if Yamamoto's Bankai was simply to strong for the barrier to stand up to.

They were keeping eyes on the Espada, the actual threats.

Ukitake could've done so earlier in the Starrk fight and might not have become incapacitated.

Shusui's sword may be annoying, but that shouldn't be enough to have him decide not to activate it given the stakes.

They did have enough people to do both; Captain Doggy was free, so he could've been on one to begin with.

They also had multiple unused Lts.

He didn't need to. His shikai was working wonders against Starrk.

If it doesn't wanna cooperate, not much can be done. 😛

Captains needed to keep eyes on the Espada. Though Captain Doggy disappears from the fighting for 10 minutes or so after using his Bankai. It's true weakness.

Indeed.

Well not really, most of the good ones got their ass kicked by Allon and Omeada decided to help Soi Fon fight Barrigan. The only free Lts were the guy from Squad 1 and Nanao IIRC.

I wonde if Ukitake's Shikai would work on the wolves. At least it would've let Starrk more dignity when finally being defeated.

Got damn swords.

Wonder what Komamura was doing in said free time. Though one would figure if Yamamoto had enough free time to help Lts out then he could've just started to pwn Espada right?

Yamamoto could of one-shot Harrible, Barragan, or Stark with his Shikai, and it would take no effort at all.

Leaving most of his force completely intact for the fight with the renegade captains. You know, some of whom could have handled Wonderweiss so he couldn't put out his little flame sword.

Well Yamamoto must've wanted to watch the fights just like we did. Hence why he didn't get involve. 😄

If they did that then the vizards would look even more lame. Though Aizen could just pwn all of them barring Yamamoto. Leaving it 3 against one sort of.....I think.

That's the thing, with them handling Wonderweiss, Yamamoto is free to spank Aizen's monkey ass solo. And Tousen would be an utter non-factor to Yamamoto, only Gin's Bankai could pose a problem.

Though... This is all ignoring Hogyoku nonsense, but Yama had no way to know about that.

And admittedly if Yamamoto just wrecked house, I would of missed Barragan being generally badass and awesome.

I'm just emphasizing that for what Ikkaku is guilty of, Yamamoto is guilty to a greater extent. estahuh

At least Yamamoto saved everyone's life. 😛

But yeah, considering Wonderweiss didn't show up until later, the old guy could have killed all of them rather easily by himself. Aizen would have been a problem I guess.

Don't forget the Kido corps.

Also, all the 3rd seaters can't be useless.

Considering he was willing to kill everyone just to get a shot at Aizen afterwards I don't think he gets any points for that.

Hogyoku>>all apparently 🙁

I guess they could've made Rangiku and Momo's recoveries more believeble.

The only other 3rd seat we saw was pwned by Chad. Then there's the squad 13 third seats who haven't shown any talent what-so-ever. 🙁

I really hope that Yamamoto turns out to be stronger than Butterfree Aizen.

Because it'd be a shame if he wasn't.

He should be. Ichigo might end up fighting Yamamoto in the next arc, since Soul Society is shaping up to be the villains. awesome

If Aizen's hypothesis about his powers in comparisson to Mugetsu were correct, then that would make him the most durable character in the series at that point in time.

So I doubt Yamamoto would be able to harm Butterfree Aizen 🙁

Favorite fight?

Chad vs. random street punks. estahuh

I actually just finished reading that fight. Reminds me why I hate Squad 11 so much.
