Renji and Ichigo are different characters and while it would be fun to go into detail why there honestly wouldn't be much of a point to it. And Renji is far and away more likable than Grimmjow.

It's just weird that now Kubo suddenly decides to give Renji a power-boost that allows his to keep up with Ichigo and block a guy who blitzed Soi-fon.
So...is Byakuya just stuck taking a bath with his sister? I know he was on the brink of death and all but it's still pretty weird how he was just left behind but its whatever.

If beating up on an opponent you can easily defeat quickly as a means of pretending you're tough is cool then sure. But the minute Tosen shows up Grimmjow is basically nothing.

And once Nnoitra shows up Grimmjow turns into a complete coward and flees the scene(only way to explain his disappearance).

But it wasn't the beating itself that entertained me...it was the delivery. Who else has beaten Ichigo down in such a hilarious fashion I ask? Hence why it is still cool.
Sure Ichigo has been beaten far worse but none of them were as funny as Grimmjow beating Ichigo's ass.
Oh and Kubo could've alway forgot about Grimmjow in that time kind of like how he forgot about Nel and Kon.

Absolutely nothing. My favorite is Rukia and she's about as strong as a soft breeze.
The problem with Grimmjow is that he is so full of himself when he's nobody. He only knows how to brag about how great he is. Which if you're dealing with people far below is alright but when your doing it to people who are so much stronger than you it's silly then you come across as a douche.

Renji bragged but knew he was weaker than Byakuya, which is one of the reasons Renji is more likable. Hell even Aizen would only brag to those legitimately beneath him. He fully admitted that Yamamoto would have kicked his ass. He didn't call the guy a pussy before sending Wonderweiss in to prove how much weaker Yamamoto was than him.
