Why is the movie Gavid Gale being used so much in the attack of the death penalty? I mean that movei wasnt based on anything but an imagination of a writer, and the legal ramifications of the death penalty. Besides, In the movie, Gale was behind and linked to the mureder that he was put to death for. Instead of fighting for life, he pussied out. So why is this movie still being thrown out there to prove that the system doesnt work, when in all actually, the movie goes to prove that the system does work, and that the death penalty is justified.
RR> Two things.
1) Being linked to a crime doesn’t mean you committed it.
2) Check the statistics. Innocent people have been killed by the state for a crime they did NOT commit. If you truly believe murder is wrong, how can you support a penalty that is being used against people who didn’t commit the crime?

The movie proves that everything can show that YOU have committed the crime, but yet didn't. To me that movie is an excellent way to prove a case against the death penalty. And David Gale, the main charactor was fighting against the death penalty & was proving that just because it looks like you did the crime, doesn't mean you did it.

What about all the people who commit murder and the families of the victums are denied justice... 😬 it is sad that some people are convicted of crimes they did not commit but we should not let up and allow the true guilty to get a free pass because we are afraid to make a mistake... 😬 .... considering todays technology i doubt we will make the biased and hasty desicions of the past... most executed we say were innocent did not have the legal system and technology we have today... so technically the statistics of you allude to are rather obsolete. 😬

I agree w/you, we shld NOT let up on the people that have been convicted of crimes, but i just have mixed feelings on the death penalty cuz i know it's killed alot of innocent people. Everything can be pointed right at that person and they still could be innocent.

I hate to argue about a fictional peice of work, but Gale lied about everything he claimed diddnt happen. He took part in a death that would prove the system doesnt work. With a single word the death would not have happend, but he wanted to become a martyr and prove the death penalty isnt moraely correct, the best way he could think to do this was to pull off a murder. the guy was crazy and decietful. The movie alltogether proves that the system does work.
Remember, it isnt the goverment or state putting these people to death, it is their own actions and the decesion of people like you and i. If anyone should be blamed for the sentencing of peoples death it should be you and i, not the goverment. It snt a decesion that is written down on paper that makes the death penalty happen, it is society. the death penalty isnt barbaric, it is justice, and justice served. These people commit viscious hanus acts, and still have not one, not two but three possiblities of trial to prove their innocence. This means three sets of ordinary people sentence people to death. If you want a movie that would more or less say their is somthing wrong with the death penalty, dont choose a movie that justifies it, go for one that tarnishes it, runaway jury is a good one, one that is true in a less glamorized way.

1) No, but you still consider a suspect. Until you have been clear of all charges a person still remains a suspect. If a lawyer can make a person look innocent in a trial, and the judge buys it. Then, whether a person is guilty or not, that person might walk on free. Thus justice isn't served. Only reliable evidence and testimony of witnesses can prove a person is guilty or not.
Now, whether the punishment fits the crime, that's a whole new story. A judge cannot sentence to death a criminal found guilty of stealing a candy bar. That would be hugely unjust. But if a criminal has killed at least 5 innocent people and doesn't regret it than the death penalty might be suitable to punish the criminal.
2) I hope those statistics weren't made by anti-death penalty groups. If so, those statistics might be waaaay off.
Official statistics, yes, yes i do.
Why would anyone lie about how many people there are on the death row? What the hell are you talking about?
Oh right, or is it that people on your death penalty are murdering people, so they are giving us the wrong statistics? Yeah, thats possible too.
Maybe one day when i finish my degree, i can go work in the government and give everyone the false statistics about how many triels and convictions there are. 😱

Interesting article. Helps back up my argument of "killing killers is the only way to make sure they won't kill/hurt again", despite the fact that no one has yet to make a valid argument against it.
