Tis much truth to what thou hath stated.

These "renaissance men" at Sony may think that thou is foolish, but indeed it is their actions that tell us who is truly lacking in the intellect department. So to quote thy ever immortal words of Macbeth, Sony doth indeed tell -- "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury -- signifying nothing."

So what does thou think of those grapefruits?

This world is full of greed and people yearning to be the best and have the best. does anyone need at 100,000 dollar car....no but do most of us want one yes....does anyone need a 73 plasma screen no but many people buy them. Does anyone want to spend 600 bucks for a stupid video game console that is made approved buy Chuck Norris.....No but so many people will buy them. I won’t buy it you won’t buy it but we are not the world. There are enough people who are stupid enough to actually pay 600 bucks for a PS3, 8000 bucks for a 73" plasma screen and 100,000 bucks for an over price car to keep them at the top.

So next time you go driving count how many AMG Mercedes or BMW M3 and M5 and 700’s all those people are the same yuppies that will pay 600 for a PS3 hell most of them will be the ones buying it on eBay for 2000 – 3000 bucks.

The grapefruits thus bitter so far.

That's the thing, though - many people don't buy that sort of stuff because the vast majority of people can't afford those sorts of things.

The only way the PS3 can come out on top of this generation is if they're able to capture the casual gamers. And with an over-expensive console with new technology that the vast majority of people don't even know what it is? The average casual gamer/non-gamer will not go for it.

Lana speaks truth.

And also, for all of you saying that GeOW is pushing the 360 to the limits and that no game could look better, I have a question: Even if it is true, who cares? The graphics are absolutely wonderful, I wouldn't mind if every game came out looking like that.

Well I'm a hard core gamer and I can afford a PS3 but I'm not going to pay 600 bucks for it, just like I'm not going to pay 500 for the Xbox360. 300 is the absolute most I will pay for a new system now. But I never buy a new system when it first comes out I always wait for the first price drop because good games aren't out until then anyways. But I'm only 22 and am just out of college so I don't have much money yet. But when I'm 30 I will have a lot more money so I might pay 500, 600 bucks for a system, and the average video gamer is 30 and that is what they are targeting. So just be you and I and most everyone on the forum isn’t going to buy the systems doesn’t mean as much as it seems because most of us on the form are under 30……..I think I have only been posting here for about 4 days so I don’t know the average age but it seems pretty young.

That only hold true becuase you have nothing to compair it too. The graphics are amazing now but in 4 years who knows what the PS3 will have out, and if the Xbox is getting close to its limits with that it would be a smart Idea to wait to see what the PS3 can do. But Halo 3 will look better than Gears of War, but After Halo 3 who knows.

Well as for age no one here should be under 13, thanks to the rules. I'm fairly sure that we average from late teens to maybe mid-30s.

And the current target demographic does not start at 30. The current target is 18-30-year-old male.

As for price, what does being older have to do with it. Sure most people have a job at 30 and make a decent amount of money. But most people at 30 also have a house, a car, a life, and possibly a family to support. Any "extra" money a 30-year-old has that a 20-year-old doesn't goes straight into food, utilities, and gas. Look at Usagi's post up above, those are pretty average living rates. A PS3 currently costs more than it takes to live comfortably for a month. No matter the consumer demographic, the average person simply will not pay that much money for a console filled with untested, unknown technology.

Actually, I've seen some newly released screenshots of Halo 3 and it's not better, it's different, GoW looks better than Jessica Alba but the maps aren't as large as the ones in Halo 3.

Anywho, I'd say MS might win this one, but then again, the Wii croud might be bigger than I think.

That is based off your opinion you can't speak for the world. They sold out of presales almost instantly if people were that reluctant not to buy it. It wouldn't have sold out so quickly. Our opinions are different and no amount of evidence or professional forecasting could change either of our minds. You are also underestimating fan boys. Halo 3 fans are willing to pay over a hundred bucks for the game. Just like PS3 fans are willing to pay 600 bucks for the console. To say the PS3 will not do will is ridiculous in my opinion. It may not do as well at the 360 for the first year or so due to the lead it has. But once the price drops I’m buying one and I’m sure millions around the world will as well.

p.s. unknown and untested technology is a part of the PS3’s appeal who knows what it can do.

The sold outs presales are an joke.

They only sold out because each store had below 20 PS3's to sell. In Ottawa, where I live, an city of 900,000, thats roughly 200-300 consoles that are available. Obviously, they will sell out.

Sony did that with the PS1 and the PS2 its no surprise that they are under supplying the PS3 to create a overly hyped demand for it. My brother works at fry’s electronics and he sold 4 PS2 on eBay each one over 700 bucks. The PS3 are going to go for thousands. Which is going to create the illusion that 600 bucks is cheap and people will fall for it. They will see them selling on eBay for 2000 bucks so the next time they see it in available in stores for 600 they will think it’s a smoking deal.

The supply proably wont catch up to the demand for about a year.

Hardcore Sony/PS fans will be willing to pay the money, yes. But the hardcore fans make up a VERY small part of the population and are not enough to make or break a system - it's the casual gamers who do that.

New and untested tech is a good reason why so many people are wary on the PS3, actually. I work in a game store. Already I've been asked more times than I can count what blu-ray is and why PS3 is so damn expensive.

And preorders sold out because there were very limited numbers available. I think here in the US, each EB Games and Gamestop had 16 per store. And having a preorder doesn't even guarantee getting a system, and the next shipment likely won't be until Christmas. I've pointed this out before - Sony's creating a false sense of demand with a very low supply.

I think PS is digging a hole for themselves, because even though ever system put out this year will sell, so will every Wii, but there is gonna be a shitload more of those available.

Creating a false sense of demand with a very low supply is never a bad thing for a company its bad for the customer but not for the company and its product becuase the fact is the demand is there. The higher the demands the more the people want it. When gas is short people go out and buy gas, even if they don't need it they go out and buy it. That’s just how the economy works. and the hardcore fans will make the PS3 enough sales to keep it alive tell the first price drop after the first price drop then the causal gamers will get there hands on it.

But eventually the PS3's supply will catch up. And everyone is going to want a ps3 because the hype and limited supply. People of the world aren't smart enough to see there scams.

A person is smart but people are stupid as hell they will buy like sheep.

Sony is not creating a false sense of demand, the really don't have that many consoles. When I went to EB to pick up FFXII I had a nice chat with the employee there, and she said that the Sony sales rep the team had talked to was complaining about how with the current hardware and factory production issues, they're never going to meet year-end sales quota. Yet another result of so much untested hi-tech junk being stuffed into the console.

The Sony fanboys will create a surge of business on Nov. 17, and a surge of business after the next shipment comes in. I doubt Sony can expect the fanboys to do much more than that.

I agree...but even I don't think that people are going to be dumb enough to drop that much money on a system that they know nothing about 😛
