Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

thats kinda true...microsft knows what they're doing big time. Their list of games for 07 is unbelieveable! Enough so that i want to buy a 360 now, given the fact that i was against microsoft for a while.

and maybe someone can explain this to me but...why are "sales" such a big deal? If YOU have the system YOU want and are able to play the games that YOU wanna play...then who gives a **** about the sales? after all the sales wont help you any....who's leading in the market wont help you afford anything so...as long as you are content, whats the point?

I can't see the PS2 ceasing to exist any time soon, at least not until the PS3 starts replacing the PS2 with sequels that make the originals look petty. There is still loads of reasons to pick up a PS2, free online, loads of gamers still playing those games online, loads of great games and thousands more of pretty good games, cheap price to even beat the price of that of Wii, the ability to add Linux and other (pointless in my opinion) accessories as you desire, plus the famous memory card, highly practical, the ablity to play PS1 games (If you really want to go that far back), quite frankly, I have my PS2, have made no effort to get a next gen system, and am still having the same amount of fun you lot are having on your Wiis, PS3s and 360s, fun doesn't come in ratings, there is no limit or fun bar. Like I said, if shiny graphics mean nothing to you, you can still have a great amount of fun on any console, heck, just having my gorgeous gf and my PS2 is enough to keep me going until I decide to pick up a next gen, or a next next gen system. When I get bored of my PS2, I've got my gf, when I get bored of her nagging, I've got PS2, see 😉 lol

Besides, who needs shiny DOA graphics when you've got a beautiful girlfriend to love and kiss in real life, huh?

PS2 will be discontinued in a year, year and a half. Tops. And you'll watch Sony pull away from creating new games for it over the next year as well, as they move over more and more to concentrating heavily on the PS3.

And the 360 finally has a couple games coming out soon that look interesting. About damn time they make something for that system that's not a shooter or sports.

Meanwhile, why can't you make a link between launch sales and later sales? I'll bet you that if you compare earlier launches to later sales you could find a link. How much did the 360 sell in two months?

Xbox360 sold 600,000 from November to January
PS3 sold 1 million from November to January
Wii Sold 4 million from November to January

If the console's launch sales figures foreshadowed the future then Xbox will be in last PS3 will be in second and Wii will be in First by a very large margin, and the end of the consoles might turn out that way but it wouldn't be due to the launch.

The launch figures don't mean anything in the long run because the consoles success depends primarily on the games. Xbox360 started out with crappy games so it had a crappy launch. It started to get better games and it sold better. The PS3 started out with crappy games and it sold crappy when it gets better games it will sell better. The Wii had the best launch games and the cheapest price so it sold the best but it has to continue to make great games to continue to dominate the market.

If I remember correctly XBOX360 didnt sell a lot because of a shortage on launch and not because of crappy games.

And the PS3 didn't have a shortage. Also the Xbox shortage was over by January

I would say that the PS2 will be discontinue somewhere in 2008. But if the European launch doesn't make a hit for the PS3 then there is a chance the PS2 might make it to 2009. Sony can't discard their meal ticket so easily.

See now your changing your point... first your point was beacuse of bad games and now you changed your point saying its about shortage. Dude when you learn how to present an argument ill start to debate with you. At the moment its like debating agains a 8 yr old who knows only what he has seen.

How did I change my point? I never said it was due to the shortage you did. I just said that both Ps3 and Xbox both had shortages.

The shortages didn't effect the launch becuase as soon as the shortages were over people weren't buying the systems becuase there were no good games. In Februaryand march there were Xboxs all over the shelfs, and there and PS3's all over the shelfs becuase there are no games on it.

Lets review what you have said so far. First you make a point about Launch sales meaning nothing which is true however you go on to say XBOX360 didnt sell as much because of crappy games.

I'd say that considering the fact that you can regularly find PS3s in stock in stores now, the shortage is over (and has been for a few weeks). There's not a ton of extra systems available, but they certainly are available and on the shelves, so to speak.

All I stated is that there was a shortage. I never said the shortage was the cause of their poor sales.

The shortage was over in February not April, and after the shortage there was a long period of slow sales because of lack of good games.

If the Xbox360 was released with Halo 3 as a launch titles what do you think would happen? Yes you are correct Xbox360 would sell 4 million in a month if they had the supply. Games sell the console and they are also a major factor in determining which console becomes the most successful.

If we observe closely there is a major flaw in management. If the US is overstock with PS3 consoles and not selling...why not just start the European lauch earlier? It's suppose to be region free. And they could start making sales with the launch. Why not start the launch in Europe earlier?

That would be a good idea but we all know how stupid sony is. They will proably over stock the US and the have a 50,000 console launch in Europe just to keep the PS3 as the worst launched console.

It defenetly will help them make some profit.

There is also another issue that I've just notice.

Where the hell are the new releases for the PS3? It's totally empty.

Yep and that is the only reason the PS3's are not flying off the shelf’s.....no games. Sony is so stupid for only having one game on launch day and no good titles tell March. They should have waited tell March to release and saved themselves the embarrassment.

I look it up and the only upcoming game is Sonic the Hedgehog. Not good enough...people can't keep playing Resistance all the way to March.

360 games did kinda suck toes at launch, but that wasn't why it sold few, it was due to shortages, everyone knows that. 😖

Yeah, PS2 could go on into 2008, if its that lucky. Never know, migh pull a stunt and go on futher shocking all of us, or stop even earlier then 2008. Just depends on the situation. You have to be daft to turn down a $50 PS2 if you don't already have one with its listings of games, even if its just there while you wait for new games for your 360, Wii or PS3.

PS3 needs more games, I see the bloody games I want, its just they aren't out yet -_-, very frustrating.

I have a seriously strong belief that Wii will overcome 360's sales over the next 2 years and win the gen, I dunno, just a feeling. The two competitiors that are Sony and Microsoft should not by any means disregard Wii especially with its gaspingly shocking sales numbers only being out for a couple of months, and yet the demand is still extremely high. What makes things worse is that non gamers are picking the console up as well, this is the appeal that both 360 and PS3 don't have, although Blu-ray buyers (if blu-ray becomes the format of choice that is) may buy a PS3 for the blu-ray, but other then that they both have nothing on Wii.

The typical situation, a fan gets Wii and loves it, the family come over and see the console and play with it and enjoy it, next thing you know, they all have one for themselves either for thier kids or for the sake of it, almost like a Kareokee machine and how it became a hit over here. Wii will become like a fashion toy and gaming machine, girls will buy, non gamers will buy, old aged people will buy to stay healthy. Heck, the console is a success just looking at it 🙂 To hell with flashy graphics, who cares about that when everyone you know has got this Wii we have been hearing so much about.

And you have to admit, the name sounds odd, but means a lot Wii = We = Sharing = Togetherness, multiplayer, fun as a group 🙂

Virtua Fighter 5 is coming out next month, that's a huge release for the system.

Motorstorm is also coming out soon.

I think White Knight Story will push the PS3 alot.
