The gamecube did lack RPGs, though. Aside from Skies of Arcadia, Tales of Symphonia, ,Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, and Paper Mario, it was pretty lacking.
The SNES was the system that had all the best RPGs, of course.
GC was not technically lacking in FPS games (and N64 had Goldeneye, which was the best of its time), just the ones that it had played better on Xbox or PC.
So I will agree that yes, PS and PS2 were RPG consoles. And Xbox was usually the best console for FPS, though those were still best on PC.
I think the reason why PS3's are sitting in the shelves right now however are that well, it doesn't have any awesome games. Seeing as the control scheme is still pretty much the same, the games need to be awesome to play. Right now? It doesn't really have anything THAT good. Wii, on the other hand has the new control scheme which brings new stuff to every game. Plus it's a LOT cheaper.
I really don't care about console wars or anything, and I see no reason why people complain about this stuff, though. I just want to play games that I think are good...and PS3 has that selection.
Anyway, what are everyone's top 5 (or top anything) most anticipated next-gen games? Mine are
1. Assassins Creed
2. Spider-Man 3
3. MGS4
4. GTA IV
5. Lair
Look, I started this arguement because I don't wanna see some guy saying "PS3 is a pile of trash" around the forums, because it isn't. Sure, it isn't as popular as the Wii or the 360 right now, But it ISNT a pile of trash.
Another game that can sell PS3 units is heavenly sword. Think God of War except next gen, you can switch many weapons on the go, have many combinations of each weapon, since you can have a weapon in each hand. Each weapon also hurts a certain type of enemy more than the other. You can do crazy combinations there, and people say it's going to be a mix of God of War and Prince of Persia, which is preety cool for me =D

I hope they don't either. Not only to I hope they don't screw it up I hope they rekindle Sega’s past and make they game completely bad ass and fun as hell to play with 4 players instead of just 2 and maybe add some kind of leveling systems and weapon upgrades as you advance and a vs mode. Like mixing Soul Caliber, and Gauntlet legends into golden axe.
I don't know if this is a sony exclusive or not but if it is then this will be a big reason to get a ps3 if they do the game correctly it will be huge.

What exactly is Golden Axe?anata wa wakarimasu ka.....
A classic Sega game that is similar to Double Dragon, Streets of rage, Battle toads, and Final Fight, if you don’t know any of the following games golden ax is a side scrolling hack n slash that is ultra addicting especially with 2 players, and if they have 4 players it will be even better.

Only 2 of those are PS3 exclusives and how could you list a licence game before MGS4? That's just sick.
Spider-Man 2 still remains probably the most fun game I have ever played, and while I love MGS storyline, characters, and gameplay...Spider-Man 3 is pretty much going to have the entire New York City and the sewers to swing around. Can't really beat that.
Except Assassins Creed which is going to have 3 cities and area equivalent to 1/4 of Luxembourg to parkour around, which naturally puts it as number 1. And of course it seems to be awesome in EVERY SINGLE game thing you can name...
What can I say...I love games with huge areas to run around...
