Well duh, thanks for that.

But again that is simply misreading the context. The main line of FF games have long been a franchise that come for the Playstation now. This is the kind of thing they were referring to.

There are not many BIG franchises that are really associated with the Xbox.

Pointing out the obvious is fun.

It really is a problem for Microsoft though. Even when they have exclusives they don't seem to quite create the same sort of established franchise that Sony and Nintendo really build on.

KOTOR was used as an example- well, that only got two games, with only hazzy rumours of a third, and even then it's never really entered the public consciousness as being an Xbox franchise, just something shared with the PC. Now, it did begin development as a PC game, which didn't help. But then so did Halo and that is one franchise that the Xbox really HAS achieved well. I suppose KOTOR being the direct spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate, an absolutely PC franchise, probably took some of the claim away. It felt more native on PC.

A lot of these others... I am sure they are good games but still not really hitting the button of a big franchise in the way things like Final Fantasy, MGS, Mario and Metroid are. Only Halo can really say it stands among that crowd.

Doesnt really matter to me that MS doesnt have any big name game like FF, or Mario.

Dont really care. I rather be happy with more games coming out than what Sony is releasing right now, and in the future.

That is a waaaaay understatement. It should say that all of those other gaming franchises are almost standing next to Halo. Halo is in a league of its own. I am not a Halo fanboy, BTW. (I am a KOTOR fanboy...WOOT!!)

Microsoft has some very nice franchises going for itself...I can't think of any...so I guess that proves your point. 😆

That may well be eminently sensible.

But from a marketing point of view it is a problem for MS.

As an marketting standpoint, yes, it's not good for MS.

But, isnt MS doing better than Sony when it comes to selling the console?

I'm looking to get rid of Sonic and the Secret Rings, as well as Red Steel, and if anyone wants one or both of them it'll save me the time to set up an ebay auction for them.

id be interested in sonic possibly

PM me if you want to talk details, and obviously so you don't have to post your info here.

In the US, probably, though I don't actually know what the current sales figures are.

But that's because, as has been discussed at length, Sony have a fair few issues that are impacting their marketability as well.

Though I do reckon Sony will fix their issues of priciness before Miscrosoft manage to land some more truly lasting franchises.

In Jepan, meanwhile, Microsoft is still going nowhere. US company, of course, doesn't help with the notoriously insular Japanese market. But the Japs are also TRULY franchise crazy and MS need a big hitter for the 360 there.

In the US, 360 is beating the PS3, overall, I still they're winning the battle between both. I know for sure that the PS3 is selling well in Europe, while its sucking in Japan.

When I think about it. What franchises does Sony have that will make the console an surefire thing. Off the top of my head, they have MGS, Final Fantasy, Rachet and God Of War. Those are the franchies that actually do well critically and financially. The funny thing is that if rumors are true, and they might be, Sony only has two franchises over MS. MGS might become mulitconsole. Other than that, I cant think of anything else.

Sony will never sell even 10 million consoles, and if they do it will be because they delay the production of Playstation 4 over and over. So many of their 3rd party titles are being ported to 360, and you can't sell a console with 4 franchise titles, FOUR versions of a console at varying prices, and tons of original titles and online downloadable titles.

Xbox is sucking far more in Japan.

That you can think of four off the top of your head already dwarves what Xbox can manage. Also remember that becoming multiplatform does not necessarily remove the power of the concept- Halo is on PC, and whilst Nintendo are getting plenty of FF games the home of the franchise is still Sony.

Meanwhile there are things like Gran Turismo, Kingdom Hearts... can't remember if Devil May Cry and Silent Hill are exclusive or not...

Far more importantly, some of the franchise games for Sony and Nintendo are HUGE ones. Final Fantasy, Mario... these are games that sell in large amounts outside of the dedicated gaming fraternity. Xbox big names are still comparitively niche. As Nintendo have been hammering home to people lately, it's not all about the dedicated gamers any more.

Meanwhile, J, I hope you don't mean total sales there, because there is absolutely no way that the PS3 will NOT break the 10 million barrier worldwide.

You know i rememember Kojima himself saying at E3 that it was going to stay exclusive, that rumour from the Official Xbox Magazine came out before E3.

He always says that, but the company he doesnt control says differently. If it was coming to XBOX, it will be atleast 6 months later.

Ush, Devil May Cry 4, and Silent Hill is multiplatform. Kingdom Hearts, I would assume isnt.

I understand what your saying but I dont know if a few big franchises that Sony has will make the difference between choosing PS3 over the 360.

It took Sony 8 1/2-9 months to break a million consoles sold in Japan, Microsoft is aware they have to depend on the US for sales. To me if Japan won't buy your console you should just admit defeat, considering Japan is the biggest country in the world when it comes to console sales at least. We all know they get tons of exclusive games and everything else, so it's more hardware to worry about through there.

Even if Sony does break 10 million maybe around 2011 or so, Microsoft's next console will be well past around 5 million or so, and Nintendo's Wii will be at least double of Sony's sales.

I don't think Squareenix would risk the loss of money by keeping Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 13 a Ps3 exclusive, if any company is after money over quality, it's Square Enix. [Of course everything is about money, but considering how many third party games are being ported between the 360/Ps3 already, it's pretty obvious Square Enix would do everything possible to get the most money off of big games like KH 3 and FF 13.]

Hell, why else will Star Ocean 4 be on Ps2? Because the Ps2 simply SELLS A LOT better than the Ps3.

The PS2 sold over 100 million worldwide. There is no way the PS3 is going to get less than 10% of that. That would be half as much as the gamecube and Xbox sold last generation.

Sony may have cocked up but not THAT much.
