Sony may have cocked up but not THAT much.

Sony pulled it off two generations in a row, so they decided to go all out and put Blu-ray and specs before sales because nobody wants to spend $500 on a console. I don't even know how much the Ps3 costs in the UK Ush, or Euros, or Japan, but I can be sure it's over $500 before State Tax is included. That's ridiculous and robbery to charge that much for a console, Nintendo did the right thing by making Wii $250.

The biggest problem for software itself is the price of the Accessories, $50 for a Ps3 controller, and 360, both wireless, $20 for Nunchuk, and $40 for Remote, is robbery.

Just to make an example of price in other countries, with taxes etc a PS3 here in Norway cost about 960$ to 1050$, but of course, keep in mind that this is Norway, the world most expensive country (still a ridiculous price).

That's the most ****ed up thing I ever heard, you should spend $1,000 on a sound system for a living room, not a CONSOLE.

Here's a price list from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_launch#Release_data_and_pricing

Aparrently three other countries have even higher prices then Norway...

That's just horrible, I'd never even look at the PS3 if I didn't live in the US.

Which is why I am a Wii60 owner and have never even looked twice at the PS3.

Yeah, I don't blame you, I'm waiting for the MGS4 port to be announced, because like I said Sony would need a dozen franchaise exclusives for me to buy it. I'm not spending that kind of money for 400 original titles.

All of this may well be true and I am hardly a Sony fan but this changes little- it is insane to think that the PS3 will not sell 10 million.

It can only get cheaper and more attractive as time goes by, and it has sold several million already.

The several million it's selling still pales in comparison to how quickly the Wii is selling, and Microsoft's mindset has obviously moved toward putting out Halo 3, Gears 2, and [as of now] XBox 720. Not everyone is sold by fancy specs, money speaks highly, and putting out the Ps3 at DOUBLE the price of the Ps2 was not a smart choice. When the Ps3 drops to $300 I'll start to give it attention, right now all I'm concerned with that's on it is MGS4.

Your forgetting about all the diehard 1337 Sony fanboys who'll gladly rationalize that 600+ dollars is actually cheap for "A system as great as the PS3". It'll go over 10 Mil, but not by much.

It will sale over 10 million 5 years from now durlaughdurfist

The PS3 will sell over 10 million units.

It will creep there until Sony drops the price to what it should be, $300-$350, and by that time the Wii will still be ahead, and Microsoft's new XBox will be long out.

hey sorry to sound like a noob but has microsoft fixed the 360s yet, or do they still break every three months cause im about to buy one in the coming weeks and i didnt want to end up regreting that i did.

I can give this the same response I gave last time- yes, but that doesn't change... that the PS3 will still sell more than 10 million.

Probably easily. No major console release has sold under 10 million in a long time. The PS3 is not doing great but, again, it is not a massive disaster.

It will certainly reach 10 million before the next X-Box is 'long out'.

Current Sales figures for the 3 consoles.

Xbox 360: 11,604,291 = 47%
PS3 : 3,854,982 = 16%
Wii: 9,067,884 = 37%

For what region?

Those are worldwide sales.

Sucks for Sony, price speaks highly, and the world is aware of it still. 😄

There has been no shortage of news about Nintendo's domination of the gaming market in the past year or so. The world seems to have taken a real liking the Nintendo Wii and DS, and it looks like there is no end in sight. Of course, Nintendo is pleased as punch, and they'd love to brag to the world about how well they're doing, but lately they don't even have to lift a finger. Everyone else has that taken care of these days, taking the latest NPD data and running with it.

Nintendo posted a net income of $667 million dollars for the April through June period, and they've brought up their quarterly profit to five times previous numbers. The data says that 9.27 million Wii consoles have made their way into living rooms across the globe. They've even upped previous predictions, stating that they will sell 16.5 million Wii consoles by March 2008. If you thought those numbers were great, check out the ones for Nintendo's DS: since its 2004 launch, 47.27 million DS portable game systems have been sold.

June's data shows a similar trend, as Nintendo's systems come out on top by a long shot. Last month Nintendo moved 381,300 Wii, which totals more units than the Xbox 360 and PS3 combined for that month. The DS did even better, with 561,900 sold in June, well over Sony's 290,100 for the PSP.

On top of all of that, Nintendo held six of the top 10 titles. First-party titles like Mario Party 9, Wii Play, Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and Pokemon Battle have dominated sales charts.

With this, Nintendo has entered the list of the top ten of Japan's most valuable companies.

Drinks on Mario.

destructoid.com is source, yeah they typo'd Mario Party 8 for 9. 😂
