is not about Gamers at this point... Wii clearly attest to that. who's to say people won't buy a PS3 just to have the technology (there are ppl like that)... a logical purchase since is the cheapest and best BR player out there.
The new standard has been set, I think the device that's (let's be honest) responsible for it's so called success will capitalize on it
it might not make PS3 beat the Wii on sales, but it will definitely improve said sales. It might not happen right away, but the PS3 is only a year old... and a couple of years, things will not be the way they're now (I mean the standard for home entertainment)
... unless, of course, SONY shoot themselves on the foot yet again, and release a better (cheaper) BlueRay player....
and if it weren't all that important, MS wouldn't be considering a BR add-on, would they?
about sales: it doesn't make much difference the numbers the consoles sales make these months (they are not that far apart to tell which one sells best), but I don't see people being coerced into buying one or the other, if they want one that's out of stock, they should wait instead of taking the one covered in dust just so they won't leave empty handed....
because the reason BR beat HD-DVD is the PS3... 😕
though the PS3 was hurt by it
No, I would disagree, it's about the games and I don't think Blu-ray will be near the massive library which took DVD years to achieve. Foreign, independent upcoming movies, tv shows, kids, etc....is not the boat for Blu-ray.
Blu-ray have won the format war and now they have to survive agaisn't things like downloading or even HVD. Which aren't not too far away. DVD began in the 90s and it took a long way before it became a house hold name.
Now, MS thinking of joining the Blu-ray format? True, it's where they're going. However, they made the right decision by not sticking a HD DVD into the 360. That paid off for MS as well. Now they can jump to the Blu-ray camp IF that's what their buyers really want.
