I must admit the blueray and PSP connection have proven themselves more then worthy accessories to the PS3's arsenal, fact that some models do not contain backwards compatibility, it's expensive for what it is...considering it does not have many good games at all....Little Big planet and Drake are the only two I can say really are the PS3's greats.
But I have a hacked PSP so I use that for PS1 games and the like, also the PSP is not as good as the DS.

if thats not slim-psp, firmware upgrades are capped(according to a friend)
if I do get ps3 in the future.. I'd want the backwards compatible version... as I usually give my older systems to family members
I heard they stopped doing the BC PS3's for now at least?
I get Firmware downloaded from my PSP easily, it only takes up to four-five mins at the very least.

well, blu-ray winning the hd format war has at least made sure the ps3 will continue to sell as the best bd player currently out in the market. its a bd player, and yes, it also plays games 😛 .plus, the ps3 has been constatntly outselling the xbox360 world wide since december even with the higher price tag and "inferior game liblary" as many like put it. The ps3 is definitly still in the game.
i disagree... but lana said it better than i could:

I actually did explain the sales thing already a couple of pages ago. 360s haven't really been available in stores since a few weeks before Christmas. They're hard to get at the moment and usually when they're in, sell out nearly as quickly as Wiis do. Meanwhile, PS3s are basically stock-piled because they really don't sell.

so do i, but one store isnt a representation of the whole market. sure it may be collecting dust in your area, but it may be selling well in other areas. and i know for a fact that ps3s are selling out here where i live. though i live in asia which is probably why its selling better than the 360 😛 we asians just love our playstation.
where i live, 360's and wii's are hard to come by, whereas i could walk into any game shop and walk out with a ps3...

Just checked VG charts and PS3 is outselling X360 in america now, but the Wii is in a category all its own. When you really think about it, it makes since that the focused on the Blu-ray war, if Sony would have lost the format war, their machine would be dead. I also believe if Microsoft had HD-DVD built in then Sony's console would of been a hard buy for most.

I don't know if you are joking or being serious. I like to play Mario Sunshine, Smash Bros Melee, Metoid Prime 1 & 2, Star Fox Adventures, and many other Gamecube games and it's nice not having to dig up my Gamecube and hook it up just to play these games when I can just play them on my Wii...same goes for Xbox games. I wouldn't mind going back and playing KoToR and it makes it easier doing that just on the 360 since it's already hooked and ready to go.
Not saying backwards compatibility is bad, but the price difference between a PS2 and a PS3 is huge, so if people arent buying PS3 games to go along with it (which is the case), why spend that much money when you can just use a PS2.

I guess people just want to keep up, and at least say I own a PS3.

I think it's more that people buy a PS3 and a couple of PS3 games, but also play their old PS2 games on it, or use it to play any new PS2 games that come out as well.
Because let's be serious. The PS2 isn't exactly a sturdy machine 😛
Looks like things are back to normal...
Wii outsells PS3 4-to-1 in Japan.
Things are gonna go insane when Super Smash Bros. Brawl gets release in the states and europe.

1. and i disagree with the both of you. but to each his own
2. where you live thats true, but its irrelevant coz i'm in asia. and here, its the otherway around. wiis and ps3s are selling while the 360s sitting on shelves collecting dust.
