the PS3 definately has the horsepower to be superior to the 360, with games like MGS4 that is visually breathtaking, it merely scratches the surface of whats capable.

I take it MGS4 is the PS3's current selling point so Im gonna ask 2 questions:

a) what would you say if MGS4 was ported to 360, compressed to fit on a 360 disc with EXACTLY the same quality as the PS3 version?
The game is IDENTICAL, so please dont dodge the question by saying 'it wont be as good', this is hypothetical that both versions are IDENTICAL.

b) If its taken this long to get a game like MGS4 out, which "scratches the surface" why didnt they just go all out and show us all what the PS3 is truly capable of. You can tie it to development issues if you need to. If MGS5 comes out within the PS3 lifespan, and only uses 'half' its potential, what good is buying a PS3 if its not breaking any boundaries with its games?

I mean, you just said "definitely has the horsepower to be superior", but wheres the final product to back this up?

The thing with multiplatform games is they have to lower the bar so the 360 can handle it, so it would be identical.

That's just wrong and you know it. There's a lot of multi-platform games that are better on one system than the other. In fact, most are better on the 360.

And I find it funny that the top selling games on the PS3 are MGS4 and Motorstorm...you know, the games you got for free for buying the system...

Also I wouldn't say that installing games on the PS3's harddrive is really a plus, considering the fact that the games that do that, don't exactly give you an option...

You know, the interesting thing is that multiplatform games are regularly pared down for the Wii, so it's not like developers don't do that. Look at Guitar Hero III. The Wii version has significantly fewer polys, and not as many flashy effects. The 360 and PS3 versions, however, are identical. So if they can, and do, make differences to maximize what they get out of each console, why are the PS3 versions not superior?

i wont dodge the question, if that happened, id say "dammmnn" and there would be a mutiny somewhere. IF the game is exactly the same, im not exactly sure if the game was actually compressed and still took up a lot of space or not compressed.

they probably didnt need to go all out and show what full blown capabilities of the PS3 because this was already amazing as it is. It's too early in the PS3's lifecycle to even do that probably. It would probably be like, how progressively as PS2 became older, more and more games became better and better, we're going to see a lot of PS3 games starting to step it up. What good is buying a PS3 if its doing the same job as the 360? if its not breaking an boundaries or pushing envelopes? Honestly im not the right person to ask. The thing is even when PS3 exclusive games are not running at even half the power, they're still breathtaking and amazing, that is something on its own already.

the horsepower visually can be seen in Ratchet and Clank Future, Uncharted, Motostorm, MGS4, Gran Turismo 5, and future titles like Killzone 2, inFamous, and a 1080p God of War 3 i believe. and do it in HD, it has a knockout in the visual department, but i am unfamiliar about processing powerhouse, but apparently the PS3 cell arch also runs supercomputers for IBM??

peach: well since i think you said you mentioned you worked at a gamestore, ill take your word that MGS4 sold mostly in bundles and Motorstorm too. Despite the recent greatest hits pricecut for Motorstorm. and can you tell me how much Uncharted preowned costs

general K: yeah i dunno if its just me but the wii version is like a port of the ps2 version with motion controls. i think developers should optimize each version of the game to support each consoles specific strengths.

Yes, I do work in a gamestore. I have for two years now. I probably talk to at least a hundred people about games a week 😛

I don't think the Greatest Hits price cut is going to increase sales much for Motorstorm, considering there are better racing games out there.

And I'm not saying that most MGS sales were in the bundles. But I DO know there were many people who held out on buying the system in order to get that bundle. There are a lot who did so simply because they wanted the 80GB system and didn't care less abou the game itself.

(proof - we had a dozen used copies within a week of the game coming out)

Uncharted used price...sheesh, had you asked about anything but PS3 I'd know it off the top of my head 😛 I can't remember. $40 or $45, I think.

But really, why shouldn't the PS3 have a game fully showing what the system can do by now? It's been out two years and there still really isn't a killer app on it yet (MGS comes close). The 360 had one a year after launch - Gears of War. The PS3 is well overdue for one.

That's my point. They do. So why aren't the PS3 versions of multiplatform games noticeably superior?

i think the greatest hits thing did alright, atleast the best buy i went to, the whole greatest hits shelf was nearly empty and only two copies of motorstorm was left there

do you think the people that returned MGS4 knew about MGO? and thank you for the pricing info

yes! the PS3 is overdue for one, yes. Well im stoked for, and a lot of online sites and ofcourse Sony are touting LittleBigPlanet to be the killer app, they even enlisted Sackboy as the official PS3 mascot, after years of refusing to focus on a particular character like Nintendo's Mario and Microsoft's Masterchief. We will see if LBP does well.

i gotta say, things are taking long with PS3, but we got Socom, Resistance 2 and LBG in fall, Killzone 2 in the winter, inFamous in the spring, God of War & MAG in the summer, the Twisted Metal project JUST started a few monthes ago, on early stages such as testing physics...

and general k: you tell me why the PS3 versions arent superior, and do they need to be superior, or do the developers intend them to be identical so that gamers across both platforms recieve the same great quality.

I'm pretty sure that if someone gets rid of a game, it's because they don't like or want it, and an online component isn't going to change that. Not everyone plays online or likes online play.

And it could be that they were simply not sent many Greatest Hits copies. Like, at my store we got two copies of Ninja Gaiden Sigma - and that was all. Most of the stores in my area (woo for having a wide net of friends) got similar.

LittleBigPlanet does look damn cool. But I wouldn't put any hopes into Killzone. The first was just a mediocre game and the only thing this one is really riding on is the fact that it's been in development for-freaking-ever.

And as GK said, developers have already shown that they do not intend games to be identical across all platforms. Else all games that appear on all three systems would look like they were made for the Wii, even if it's a PS3 or 360 version of the game.

So, yeah, next try. My girlfriend has an X-Box 360, it's quite enjoyable. I liked GTA 4 and Dead or Alive 4 on it. But it already had that infamous death ring of death (and destruction and death), was kinda annoying. I am going to buy the PS3 off one of my friends later this months and have the games MGS4, GTA 4 and Gran Turismo: Prolouge. Wonder how GTA 4 will be different on the PS4. I am also looking forward to watching Blu-Ray disks on my new Monitor, should look nice. Don't care for the Wii at all, hardly any fun in the games I played so far.

LittleBigPlanet looks like it could be very cool, and was indeed the first thing that made me give the PS3 the benefit of the doubt. But the fact remains that LBP, despite the apparent quality, is a niche game. And niche games do not killer apps make. I'd love for LBP to become a huge bestseller and prove me wrong, and show that Sony is attempting to fix their mistake, but the track record for spirited, whimsical games isn't exactly good.

Gears of War 2 looks better than MGS4.

GTA4 was pretty glitchy on the PS3, actually, I've heard.

the wii aside, i dont think the wii version of any game is supposed to be like the 360 PS3 version, since games like Spiderman 3 on PS3 360 were made by like activision i believe? and the ps2 wii version was made by vicarious vision, same with GH3, i believe different teams headed the wii ps2 version than the other two, and the wii version had mono sound, but i guess they werent meant to be identical right? ill take ur word for it

to ESB, gears 2 is coming out after MGS4, and its not even out btw, so far MGS4 i believe is the best looking game out there today. But we can expect technology to be better than previous games.

No that would be Crysis for the PC. Console game maybe but if the 360 can still produce better looking games then it hasn't peaked yet.

yeah i dont count PC in the console wars.

personally i dont know what Gears 2 looks like on an actual television screen, ive only seen screen shots, and a video thats like a small square on my computer. but yeah the visual quality of these systems hasnt peaked yet, i didnt say that, but SO FAR on the consoles, MGS4 is one of the top best.

You guys are mean 🙁

Only arguing about your stupid consoles...forgetting about the little people out there. 🙁
