Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

I think its the graphics processor and how its solder on the board.

When I first saw the PS3 and its price tag, i thought wow, It's the atari jaguar/3DO/neo geo all over again. A really expensive system that's kind of ahead of the curb that consumers don't particularly want to buy and developers don't really want to or know how to make games for. But people bought it, I think mostly for the blu ray and for MGS4, but now there's this big slump in sales which actually started before the recession really hit the media. And that's cause when sony rereleased the thing, they took out the backwards PS2 compatibility which not only stops you from playing the old games, but would also prevent sony from releasing them on PSN.
Now personally when i buy a new system i look at a couple of things but mainly the games (zelda, metroid, castlevania) and whether or not its a complex, consistently expensive, defective, constantly breaking piece of shit with no games on it that i want to play (cough, xbox). Now this kind of sucks cuz the way things are going, if the next castlevania is a PS3 exclusive and the system does die quickly with sony going the way of sega, i'm gonna have to eventually get one anyway.

The Playstation label had far too much established crediibility to go the way of the other consoles mentioned (Atari, in particular, had 'lost it' by the time the Jaguar came, and their insane President didn't help).

But even that credibility only goes so far- the point still is that the PS2 had the most ridiculous lead in its generation, a true victor in every way, whilst now it seems very possible that the PS3 will remain stuck in 3rd place. That's a massive lead not just eroded, but actively lost AND more. It's quite telling.

I think sony can recover financially and sell more ps3's by putting compatibility with ps2 games back in and selling it for even less. They would more than make up the loss from underselling the ps3 by making the entire ps1 catalogue available for download on psn. I bought castlevania chronicles on it for the PSP and i know a lot of people who would eagerly pay to play ps1 games on the go. better yet, it could do what the wii has not yet done in north america and start releasing games for the MSX, PC88, x680000, pc engine, and arcade for psp, now who wouldn't pay for things like vampire killer, the original two metal gears, and other things, on the go?

I really don't think they would make up that shortfall, actually. The margins even without PS2 compatability are apparently rather grim.

At least PS3 games actually sell now. Back when PS3s played older games? People really weren't buying PS3 games.

And they really can't afford to sell the systems cheaper than they are now. They're still selling at a loss.

How many units have they sold, and how many until they turn a profit?

dunno if this has been addressed yet, but how does everyone feel about the new play control thing nintendo has introduced (remaking gamecube games for wii controls, as well as adding extra content)??
i think its great for the people who never played the original gamecube versions, but i doubt it would be popular with those who have 😬

that being said, im getting the DK jungle beat and pikmin remakes as soon as they hit aus! 😄

Actually, I'm planning on getting the Metroid Prime gameswhen they manage to get over here. I'd love to play them with Corruption's control scheme.

do you reckon they drop the price on them because they're technically gamecube games?

Well, damnit.

My 360 gave me the three red lights tonight ermm just after I finally bought Guitar Hero World Tour, too.

And it was weird. I played for a while, all was fine, I shut off the system and went in my room. I came out an hour later because my brother asked me a question and my system was not only on but blinking the three red lights at me. So that's confusing. But, damn.

Yeah, it happens randomly it seems. When it happened to me it was just sudden like that, was playing Gears 1 and then bam, it froze and made a horrid noise and it was done.

That's why I don't plan to buy another 360. I didn't have my 360 long enough to have it show me the Red Ring of Death because it was stolen when my house was burglarized in April.

Heh, yeah. I know it does that really at random. But the weird thing is that, as far as I can tell, it turned itself on to blink the red lights at me ermm

Had my 360 6 months now not had any problems yet. Here's hoping for many more months before I do.

Hey guys i got a question. I just got my ps3 for xmas and i am noticing rising horizontal lines throughout me watching blu ray movies which is f-in annoying, just wondering if u guys know anything about this and if i should get a new one or something else.

Yea i got the hdmi prong connection with three for the hd and two for the regular. Green blue red for the hd and white and red for the regular and that is hooked into the ps3, all seems to be correctly connected. It happens at all times u can really see it with a black screen the bars look dark purple and travel up the tv at all times.

Nintendo, once again, absolutely kills Microsoft and Sony in sales.

Nintendo pretty much seal the the year post-Black Friday sales. It was their year for them....(again)
