Last-Gen Console Discussions (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii)

I'm also surprised to hear it being claimed that the PS3 is selling the most. It really isn't, not in any region. The Wii is still selling the most. Its games sales are higher than any other home console also.

I want to ask a question, so I will...

Why is the Wii, that looks so god awful, childish and typically stupid such a popular seller?

I watch commercials on the television about it and it looks like something the simple minded would flock to.

Does it have any good games on the thing?

The answer you're looking for is in your own very post.

hm, it would perhaps seem I know the answer that ime asking then if it really is as simple as that, I thot perhaps ime misjudging the system because ive not actually played it. But you just have to look at it, and its games. Although tbh the gaming i enjoy is at a different maturity to most of the major games on Wii, such as Mario for instance.

Same reason Dane Cook is a seller.

Actually that's harsh, the Wii initially had a clear price advantage, which, probably did help them a lot to get going, now with so many people having Wii's, as well as people, who are casual gamers or even non-gamers at all looking for just some good, maybe not pushing the envelope (at least not on the software side), fun (which Nintendo has always been good at providing, I mean, damn the DS is the best freaking Gaming Platform I can think of...maybe except for regular PCs) they still sell. It has a concept that the other two don't have or want, and it provides what appeals to a broad range of people, some that were possibly frowning upon computer games in general before.

Personall, I don't like the Wii, non of the games I played really appealed to me, but that's my problem, and I do realiye what people do like about it.

Yep. The Wii is a simple console for simple people. Very simple people.

Basically, the Wii is to consoles what Mac is to computers.

I don't see the connection.

I see, ime glad I seem to be correct in my first views then I guess..

You guys probobly missed it, but I was wondering if it is possible to unlock the PS3 so it can play Blu Ray movies from all regions (Not thinking about unlocking DVD's)

The Wii is not marketed to people who are more into gaming, for the most part. It's marketed more towards casual gamers and people who normally do not play video games. Which makes up the majority of people out there.

And I'm wondering now how many times I've said that since the Wii came out...

The thing is, whilst a certain type of game (i.e. the hard edged type) is having difficulties on Wii, its major, core games are still being phenomenal sucesses. Twilight Princess sold more than any PS3 game has. Super Mario Galaxy and SSBB both sold more than any 360 game has. And as for Mario Kart Wii- it has sold into double figures of millions, more than any PS3 or 360 game will ever dream of in their entire life cycle.

So people have to be careful about what they conclude about the Wii and sales.

Burning Thought- the Wii sells well because people really don't care about shelling out a fortune for shinier graphics any more. The Wii is simple, reliable and efficient, with extremely popular games on it, so what else does a console need?*

*Answer: File management and online interactivity that doesn't suck... Those are the areas in which a. the Wii is lacking but b. no-one seems to care, judging by sales, that is a real shame

Look at the chart games for the wii from week to week and you'll see that it's no longer being marketed at people who play Legacy of Kain...It's being marketed at people who play Legacy of Kain's mums.

It's a family console and, unsurprisingly, a parent, who actually pays for the console, would rather buy something the family can use as opposed to only the teenage gamer of the house.

I'm now 30 years old and have grown up with gaming from the commodore VIC20 to the current generation so I enjoy a good spread of games....from CoD4 on XBL to guitar hero to twighlight princess to stupid party games when i'm at friends houses getting drunk...

The Wii does phenomenally well with that last group and is effectively replacing board games and things like twister as a fun thing to do at house parties.

Hey guys, im wondering: is it possible to hook a "qwerty" (standard layout) keyboard to a PS3? and if so is it possible to config the games to use specific bottuns on the keyboard instead of the X, O R1, L2 etc.?

Because a friend of mine is a huge Mortal Kombat fan like myself but he is only at his best with a keyboard and he likes to have the keys a certain way which he feels the most comfortable with.

If this is possible then which keyboard do you recommend.

Thanks for your answers.

I'm also pretty sure you can connect a keyboard to a PS3, but not for gaming.

I am thinking of buying a ps3, but I already have a 360. Is there anything on the ps3 that the 360 doesn't have, but is also worth buying one?

Thanks to all that answer.

Depends. The PS3 has MGS4(a must for mgs fans and tbh any gamer because its a phenomenal game) Resistance 2(great multiplayer....60+ players with no lag) Killzone 2 is very good. IMO its the PS3's Halo 3...only better since Halo 3 is pretty much Halo 1(not dissing Halo...I love it) Infamous looks awesome and the PS3 pretty much shares all games with the 360 besides a select few. Plus its a blueray, and a nice one might I add. Although you could buy cheap blue ray players.

God of War 3 looks awesome.

I wouldn't own a 360 if it wasn't for Halo.

For me personaly the only games the PS3 have that the 360 don't that could really push me over to buying one, is Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian.

But if those make me buy a PS3, then I would also pick up games like MGS4, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and God of War 3.

Not actually an ultimatum but worth a look- Activison-Blizzard CEO is considering pulling out the Sony market due to its poor performance.

Interesting. I really don't think sony will be wanting to lose the Call of Duty and Guitar Hero franchises.

It's likely that Activision are pushing for lower payments to Sony.

Meanwhile, just re-posting what I put in the Natal thread, rumour is that Microsoft may release a new version of the 360 next year wit the new technology integrated.
