The red rings on the 360 are really pissing me off. My room isn't hot, it's barely dusty, and the surface I place the 360 on isn't either hot or dusty it's just cold and yet it keeps making that accursed red ring. I even have an intercooler on it for god sakes. Everytime I see the ring I freak out because I keep thinking it's the Red Ring of Death but it's not thank goodness. It'd be nice if the system would give me a warning that it's about to do that because it's hard trying to get a disc out of a console that won't turn back on.

How's the ventilation in the room? A decent airflow can make a great deal of difference. Even if you've got a cooler, if the air around the system isn't moving it can still heat up more than it should.

I've never seen an intercooler that's not that type, personally.

there are others in which the plug its made out of metal instead of plastic, so it doesn't melt.

Nyko released one that has it's own power supply, and it shuts itself off after the console has cooled down (the console as been long turned off)

the plastic ones are crap, though.

I never saw any reason in getting an intercooler.

like GK said, there's no point in having an intercooler if there's not enough airflow in the room.

What is all this intercoolers and air flow in the room crap? It's a game console not a supercomputer, it's just sad you can't take a 360 out the box, plug it in and be confident its gonna last a few years with out worrying about the air in the room flowing good every time it's on.

To be fair, that's exactly what I've done with my 360, and it's worked beautifully since I got it.

Probably because any video game system will overheat if you don't take care of it.

My original one went out on me, but that's because I'd bought a used one and it was one of the first systems. Still worked perfectly with heavy use for over a year before it died on me, though, so I can't complain much.

I've noticed with my computer in my room, it's bloody hot in here and my computer is perfectly cooled. A regular room will be perfectly fine for the 360. Hell, I have mine in a entertainment stand that is covered and all three systems work fine.

The 360 would probably break no matter if you have a regular room, or it's cooled. It had shitty components.

tell that to Microsoft 😛

..in all fairness, it just how it is, with all the processing power needed to run many games on the console, it's gonna overheat, and you need to cool it down anyway possible.

heck, my Wii overheated (got the artifacting problem)...

a Wii!... overheating!

My ice cream maker overheated.... I found it delightfully ironic.

The 360 fails because it's a shit piece of technology, end of. I've never really looked after any of my consoles (right now my PS3 has a pair of trousers hanging off of it) and I've never had a console go **** up on me; even my NES works fine (with the ol' blowing technique).

Electrical products should last for years as long as they're in livable conditions... It's what they're designed for... An owner shouldn't have to go out of their way so stop something breaking, imagine if we had to do it for everything with a plug.

Keep in mind that right now it's also summer time to the air is just going to naturally be hotter.

Oh and Peach is right, stay away from the Intercoolers. They can actually melt to the system and cause very real problems.

Mine RRoD last week, but we're in winter and its in the lounge room about 3 metres from the heater so it was kinda expected srug Im just gonna towel it for a while until I can be ****ed resoldering it...

Goddam it!

Mine RRoD'd an hour ago too. Shit shit shit!
And the entire apartment is airconditioned 16 C.

What the **** is wrong with M$ making these cheap-ass 360s?? This is my 7th 360. Yes, mother****in 7TH!!!
And I actually bought the 5th and 6th as BRAND NEW!

Them moneybags should change the ****in crappy hardware.
How am I supposed to play these cool games, when the console itself is a piece of shit.

My Elite.

She's gone. I lost her.

.....

Yeah, she didn't make it. I did all i could and was a careful as i could be and i followed instructions to the T but surgery was not successful. She came on for about 10 seconds w/green light, the logo came on the screen, and then 2 red lights appear instead of the 3, then she completely shuts down, fans turn off and that's all that happens.

I got her from this place called CEX about a 7 months ago and i still have the receipt. I remember something about a 1 year (in store) warranty that came with it some i'm gonna go there today and try to exchange her and hopefully they won't notice that i operated on her. It looks fully unhampered with.

And if that doesn't work o well. I have a PC that's much more powerful than my 360 that i'll just mess with now.

It has vista, 2- 9800gt's in sli, a 10,000rpm 300gb velociraptor hard drive, 4gigs of ram. A Pentium dual core 2. It's a Dell XPS.

But damn, i loved the Elite though. She was just to frail. the good die young anyhow. And madden 10's coming out in a couple of days. Jees. I reserved Batman:AA, COD:Mc2, and Halo 3odst.

o well, man..

MS can kiss my ass.

Just so you know, but opening up your system voids any warranties that there may be on it.

The original warranty was already expired, since last year, otherwise i may've sent it in to get it fixed for free or have it replaced like i did with my first 360.

No worries, I weighed that option too. I checked on xbox.com and plugged in the serial # and it said my consoles' warranty expired like in June 2008. That's when i knew i can operate on it. Cause it wouldn't matte anyway. But with this store (CEX) they're just a regular store that sells used video games and consoles. Their warranty with me hasn't expired. I'll try them. I'll try every avenue before i let it just go like that.

Worst comes to worse i'll sell it on ebay for like $60-$75 bucks and give a detailed description about what happened, what i did, and sell it as broken, or 2 red lights and no refund.

Your telling me you had a warranty from a store that you bought the console with?

Why the hell did you open it up before trying that avenue first?

Seriously.

And you voided your warranty with them, more likely than not. And I am pretty sure there are ways to tell if a system has been tampered with.

Probably.

But if he can get it, might as well try.
