Don't get a slim yet...wait for a price drop. I'm sure it will happen once Kinect arrives later this year.

Doubt it. They don't need to drop the price on it - price drops only come when sales plateau. Which isn't going to happen for quite some time.

But in all in seriousness I think there is still hardware problems

There will always still be problems. It is impossible to create a piece of technology that always works perfectly 100% of the time.

none will work 100% of the time but the game consoles today crash alot more than the original cartridge consoles. infact most people who have their super nintendo or genesis they still work today. i seriously doubt any xbox 360 or ps3 is gonna last as long as those consoles did.

Oh, I still have my old systems. And they still work.

However, I can't be the only one that remembers blowing into NES cartridges, and wiggling them in the system just right in order to get them to play. Or doing things like turning on the system and pressing the game down at just the right time. And so on.

So yeah, even the old systems were plagued with their problems. But an NES or Genesis is not nearly as high-tech as a PS3 or 360. There wasn't as much that could go wrong with it. It's a bit of a false comparison.

I remember my old NES didn't crash like they do know but there was a ton of times where I had to restart the system because graphics were all buggy and stuff.

not really a fals comparison i mean the systems today could last as long as the older gen consoles its that game manufactures today use cheap hardware on their consoles. yeah i know they would be losing alot of money if they put in better motherboards and more advanced drives. but that would satisfy more people for sure. id pay an extra 100 bucks for better hardware on a console thats for sure.

only downfall with the old consoles is that you had to blow inside the system sometimes because of dust. or you had to blow in the cartridges as well. with dreamcast i didnt have any problems what so ever

I know plenty of people who have high end equipment in there computer and it still fails.

just like peach said no electronic equipment is guaranteed to work forever 100% of the time. but better hardware makes a difference

They announced a $199 xbox slim coming out later this year.

i heard about that to but since the slims are not compatible with the external hard drives how much memory is the $199 going to have ?

Well the bigger one has 250GB, so it probably will have a decent amount.

well the last gen 360s was only elites and arcades. im worried about this slim 199 model being like the arcade with hardly any memory.

There was actually the Pro before the Elite; the Elite was originally intended to be a limited edition system. The Pro was only discontinued last fall.

There's a lot of room between "hardly anything" and 250GB.

right but the last gen versions of the 360 were only elite and arcades. you dont find to many new pro's for sale anymore. if you find some that means they havent gotten rid of them yet but there are no more shipments for them.

yeah but the price for the arcade slim is the same price as the arcades 6 months ago for 199. thats what bothers me. sure i dont have a problem with a cheaper console but i want it to have good amount of internal memory if external is no longer an option except for flash drives.

There is no 'last gen' 360. They're all part of the same generation.

And yeah, but that still doesn't mean anything. The $300 slim system is the same price as the core system initially (what became the Arcade), then the Pro, and then the Elite up until a week ago. Since the memory is internal, I'm pretty sure the $200 slim will come with a decent amount.

The Arcade was $199 until literally a week ago (to this day).

now that sounds more like it 🙂

it'd be a surprise if it at least has 20gb on it (doubtful though)

I think I'll pick one of those. I'm fine using flash drives. though my xbox is a Pro, I have a 20gb drive (it was cheaper if I just swap the 60gb... I was getting an arcade anyways) and I barely ever buy DLC

what memory is internal?. I know the latest arcade have 512mb of internal memory plus HDD space, I don't know about the new Xbox, but the new HDD is still swappable

🙁 um yeah the 360 consoles are into their 5th generation now with the hardware

and the last core system was $250

The new 360's harddrive is internal.

No...that's not the way it works. All of the 360s are part of the same generation - the seventh video game generation. There have been several versions of the 360, though hardware-wise, the only actual change before the slim came out was the addition of the HDMI port.

And the Core was $280 when discontinued, actually. But it started out at $300.

is your gamestop in a small town or out in the country ? cause i noticed where my grandparents live in virginia the prices at the gamestop over their were different than the major cities. the last price for the core sytem was $250 in houston.

cause it remember being $299 and drop down to $250

whats the average price for a new PS3 or 360 game at your location without tax ?

and yeah we are in the 7th gen with the consoles but if your specifically talking about the 360s they have their own gen. same thing for PS3 or wii.

you never had customers ask for 2nd or current gen 360s when they were looking to purchase a used system ?

360 fans know that the 1st gen ones were the worst ones. and the 2nd gen 360s to current have the HDMI port. also they had different mother boards thats why people consider them as different gen 360s.
