Xbox Live Gets a Price Hike
Your online gaming on Xbox is about to get more expensive.
Microsoft has announced that as of November 1, 2010, the price for Xbox Live Gold will go up in Canada, the US, United Kingdom and Mexico. The annual fee will go up by $10 in the United States, with one and three month subscriptions also going up in price.Starting November 1, a one month subscription in the US will cost $9.99 and a three month subscription will carry a price tag of $24.99. These are increases of $2 and $5 respectively. In the UK, a one month subscription will go up by 1 GBP to 5.99. Canadian and Mexican one month subscriptions will go up by $1 CAD and 100 Pesos each to $9.99 and 599 Pesos. All other subscription packages will have the same prices.
In a posting, Microsoft spokesperson Larry "Major Nelson" Hyrb explained the hike:
"Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We're confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.
However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription."
Analyst Jesse Divinich of EEDAR believes this price increase will not have a major effect of Microsoft's momentum or subscription base, saying that, "EEDAR believes the fee increase will do little to impact the positive momentum of the Xbox 360," and that given the service improvements through the year, "it comes as no surprise that Microsoft would eventually increase the price of a Gold subscription by a moderate amount."
😐
I haven't used my 360 since FFXIII came out, don't have Live since SF4 came out... and not missing much
I'm on PSN almost every night... and loving it
Originally posted by S_D_JI try and be objective, but I love that you said that. Because that has always been one of the biggest things people hated about the psn, it wasn't as good as xbox live. I can't help it I just love sony.

New Xbox 360 Controller Revealed
Improved d-pad coming this fall.
Coming this fall, Microsoft will release a new, re-designed Xbox 360 wireless controller that features a transforming d-pad and different colored buttons.Acknowledging the trouble many players have had with the current d-pad, Microsoft's engineers have upgraded the controller's d-pad to go "from a plus to a disc with the twist of the wrist," according to Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, director of programming for Xbox Live.
The new d-pad provides "ultimate accuracy and control for both directional as well as sweeping movements."
The new, matte silver controller also features concave analog sticks and gray A,B,X,Y buttons for "added style." The controller will only be available with the Play & Charge Kit on November 9 in the United States for $64.99, with a European release planned for next year.
In a follow up e-mail, Hryb told IGN there are "no plans at this time" to release the controller separately and that the new colored buttons will not be the color design moving forward. They are only for this controller.
they took their sweet time (like 4 years) but they finally (tried) to fix the d-pad issue...
I want one 🙂
It also seems like a faffy soluction to something that is as easy as 4 little buttons close together... I hate the peripheral rush consoles get close to a consoles end. (Move, Kinect and this can all suck my balls) Mark my words, as soon as this shit storm is over we'll see the new Xbox on the market.
Originally posted by §P0oONYI agree with you, however, it is a good idea to do it this way. I mean think about it, you come up with a new idea, and wait till the next console comes out to bring it out. by doing so it will most likely cost more money to develop because you are putting it on new technology. you will have to fix all the bugs for both the new idea, and the new console, costing even more money and time. and there aren't any games out for the new console, and the new console isn't very popular yet, so you wont have enough of an audience to fix the existing bugs very quickly.

Now if you bring it out at the end of the consoles life, you know how the console works, and the console has had most of the major bugs fixed, so you can concentrate on the new ideas bugs. There are plenty of games you can apply the new idea on, games that already have an audience.
so to sum it up, doing it this way, makes it so you can get it ready for the new consoles coming out.
Originally posted by quanchi112yeah, but the 360 is pretty close, its got to be within a few inches of the ps3...if not taller.....im sorry, it is my family humor, and i am too tired to filter it, and i have already committed to it, so im keeping it
I have to say now that I have all 3 systems the ps3 stands tallest by far with the wii just sitting around collecting dust.
**** XBOX Live for the price hike.
Why the hell would I have to pay for your goddam online services? You're PoS hardware are crappy and overpriced, at least give us free online services to compensate for it!
M$ can go **** themselves for royally screwing their customers.
/rant
No more M$ crap for me from now on (sans Windows 7 Ultimate 😛).
I only use Live when I play SSF4 (and that's like, 1-2 a month), so ending my subscription is no big deal.
$10? That's an hours' work. Not that big a deal. Least for me.
And Live has (apparently):
Better servers
Party chat
Gets DLC/updates before PSN
More games are continuously supported by publishers
Much more exclusive content
Indie games
And more
It's up to the individual to say whether or not it's worth the extra money.
