Is there a picture of these plates and rocks with a translation?

Like whoa, who said a non-member, or a very inactive member, could say what our religion believes? ok, first of all they were plates, not rocks... the plates were only seen by a total of 12 different people, and seeing as there was no cameras back then it is impossible for a picture to be taken. so there is all those answers out of the way. and dont you think that the true church should be set up the way Jesus intended it to be? Nuff said-

I don't know why you got offended by webbjac ramses, what he said about Joseph Smith was true.

Our religion is founded upon the fact that it's truth was restored through a prophet in these days. We honor Joseph for this.

The plates where taken back by the angel that presented their location to Joseph. The angel was actually the last living prophet before Joseph to have the plates.
There where thirteen people to see them while they where here. Their testimony is in the introduction printed in front of the Book of Mormon.

Oh, and our church isn't based on rocks....

Ummm... I'm glad you guys are taking an interest..... hehe

o my gosh, and you guys call yourselves mormons, so disappointed, we do have "rocks", the Urim and Thumim(sp?), they were seer stones, or rocks, it was what allowed Joseph to translate the plates, so they are right and wrong in calling them rocks, so saying any pictures of the plates and rocks is a true statment, of sorts o well its not to big a deal,

o and Dorkerina, watch your wording, what you have said in a previous post could be mistaken for something totaly false PM me if you want to know what

Ok, I am sorry I seemed offended, but I'm not. I was sick when I posted that, so was kind of cranky, but still my actions were not of the best they could of been...

Anyways, I looked in the front of the Book of Mormon, and I count 12 people, like I have always done. I even checked that before I posted. You are probably thinking of Emma getting to look at them, but she was not allowed to do so. Instead she got to touch the plates. I learned that both at church, and in a video... I forget what video, but I remember watching one. Anyways, if there were 13 people who got to see the plates, show me...

And I understand thats what they were calling them, and that is why I was correcting them. I agree with RAB that the Urim and Thummim were stones, and they were. They were stones given by God to translate. There were many Urim and Thummim's but the ones we know of were the ones that Joseph used to translate the book of mormon. There are other meanings to Urim and Thummim, but I think the meaning of being a tool for translation will do just fine in this topic.

About honoring Joseph Smith, yes I am proud of him for the sacrifices he made, but either way the restoration of the true church would have happened... whether through Joseph, or through somebody else. God's plan will not cease to go forth, whether in one hand, or in the other. So, I'm just stating that the restoration would have happened one way or another, and I admit Joseph was preordained, and all that, but still. So I would have to say that the church was restored "through" Joseph more than by for this fact it would be restored no matter what. I do not mean to offend anybody, and my appologies if I do.

'

i would say prove that to me.

ok, webjac and Ramses, i know both of you, but you dont know each other, you guys are on the same side, dont fight, correct each other when they are wrong. and im not sure what you want him to prove Jake, but why dont you first prove your point

RAB, just like so used your name... webbjac....HAHAHAHA!!! sorry, I know mike, he's a good friend of mine... sorry not the best, you know Khrysta, and so you're behind her... somehwere, lol! anyways, sorry I seem offensive to you webbjac...

Wow...hostility. Glad it's clearing up. We're here to discuss the beliefs of our church right? So let's not do anymore fighting...or offending. Let's give facts as we know them and hope that we have our facts straight.

😄

Had such a good day today. Spent it with my mom. We haven't spent any time together since September when we were refugees. I took her to where the levee broke at the Lakefront. She couldn't believe it. There was so much destruction. So many people lost everything. She said that she felt truly blessed that although her house got water...it wasn't nearly as much as so many people got.

Seriously...nearly 6 months after Katrina...and it still looks like it just happened in some areas. There is still no power or water in some areas. You can see into people's houses because of broken windows and smashed in doors...and all of their life posessions are just laying everywhere covered in sludge.
It really humbles you. It makes you grateful for what you made it through with. It makes you realize that we really are in the latter days. I've come to realize a lot of things that I would rather not post on here about certain things that are sacred in our beliefs. It's amazing how fragile this world is. It's amazing how there are certain events in a person's life that allow them to see beyond the mundane existance of everyday life in this world and allow their faith to grow. I feel closer to my Heavenly Father at this point in my life than I ever have. Even though I am inactive at this point (really missing Singles Ward)...I find myself turning to Him more than ever.

I dunno...I know that was way off topic, but I had to get that out.

🙂

Well, Kella, I am glad you shared that with us. I agree with you on everything there. Thank you for sharing...

mormons dont believe that god was a man on another planet. they believe that jesus of the new testament is god. and yes they believe that god will help them to become like him and godly in nature

God used to be a man on another planet, Mormon Doctrine, p. 321. Joseph Smith, Times and Seasons, Vol 5, pp. 613-614; Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, Vol 2, p. 345, Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, p. 333.)

Eis, did I ever tell you how much your sig makes me laugh! lol, fight the liberal scourge! 😄

Anywho, sorry to contradict you webjac, but we do belive that "God once was as man now is". Now, I don't think that exactly proves God resided on a planet, or disproves it (the main point in that quote is that God was once mortal). Just that he was like us...

And, Jesus isn't God, he is his son. Christ is the God of the old testament and the savior of the new, as far as titles go, if that's what you mean.

meaning?

Srry I wanted to add this too.

Ramses, srry for not being spacific. I allways add Joseph smith into the number of witnesses. Technically there are thirteen testimonies of it's truth in the front of the Book of Mormon. But I guess Joseph wasn't a witness in a certain way.

About this whole confilict thing, I think it's funny how a person can mean something, and you can interpret it totaly different reading it. (Ramses, I totaly understand the crancky sick day thougt, I apoligize too.)

and Kella, I always enjoy what you share too. It is amazing, isn't it? 😄

*is happily listening to Phantom of the Opera soundtrack* (in case you care 😉 )

rambelin minds

oooooooooooh k.... 😑

as your name says it all...................

I agree with Kella, webjac. I don't get into deep donctrine as much as a lot of people, for I know I am not ready for it. That is deep doctrine, and for those who are ready for it. Nobody knows when they are really ready for it, but God does and He'll let you know. For those that are not members, please do not study our deep doctrine, for you will not understand it because the lack of your faith. I'm not trying to be offensive here, but I am being honest. You can't even understand or believe the book of mormon, how are you going to understand something deeper? Anyways, I want to know if anybody has taken up my challenge I gave a week or so ago with reading the Book of Mormon with a broken heart and contrite spirit? I hope so, for I know if you have faith the answers will be revealed unto you, as they were to me. Have faith my brethren, and stay strong, for God is on our side and the devil is weak....
