beautiful but massive.
Yes, the San Diego temple is massive, but I think the biggest is the Washington D.C. temple. That's where my family was sealed for all time and eternity. I am not sealed to my mother, but she and her sisters were sealed to their parents; my grandparents.
It's not a waste of money, not to us. Our religion uses these buildings for very sacred purposes that not just any building will do for. I don't know the details of what happens there because I am not able to go yet, but in September 2007 that will change.
Our church is self-sustaining...in a manner of speaking. The tithing and other "donations" given to the church go to great purposes. There is the Bishop Storehouse. There we volunteer to put together groceries for families that may not be able to provide groceries for their own family. The church pays for the supplies and the warehouses that contain the supplies for those who need it. If someone needs medication and is unable to pay for it themselves or if a single parent can't afford the rent one month...the church steps in and helps...all by using the money that is willingly given by the members.
The money also goes to pay for the Book of Mormons that the missionaries hand out, to build churches and temples, supplies and furniture that go into the churches and temples...etc. It's a great system. The LDS church is one of the wealthiest in the world. Our members pay their tithe and we support one another. Our Bishops and priesthood are not paid for their positions. They are regular men who have regular jobs. They pay tithe just like everyone else. The church even had a hand in helping with relief efforts here in New Orleans after Katrina. I'm so grateful to the men who took a week at a time out of their lives to come down here from all over the US to help us to rebuild our homes.
uhmmm....I'm rambling again aren't I? ๐
oh...Deb... have you ever heard of the Pyramid Collection? I get catalogs from them every once in a while. I am not sure why, but I get them...and they are full of wiccan-ish, faerie, Om, Yoga, dragons, etc. I would totally recommend that to you. They have some totally adorable stuff! I am SOOO gonna waste money with them! BWAH HA HA HA!

I'm so excited for you! The youth group in my old ward used to go to the Salt lake temple once a year (first day of thanksgiving break)!
Now that I've moved it has been a long time sice I was there. But we're going this summer! whoot whoot! ๐

I didn't know the Community of Christ had a temple. What's the point...I mean, they don't have the ordinances...is it just a glorified meeting house like the Kirtland Temple was?

If I were to yell that in my church meeting this friday what would their reaction be? Stoning me to death? ๐

So are you saying judge a religion by the flawed and human members rather than its doctrine and through faith and prayer? The point of religion is to seek truth.
Or maybe I'm just confused by the post.
