"Yes, well, things never were quite the same after... you know,. Long before the Clone Wars. Anyway, let's not dwell on such unpleasant things. As you are so late in the day, I am sure you have lots of questions!"

"Oh, I very much doubt that Varykino is unpleasant," Galahad says with a chuckle. "But yes, I most certainly do. What has come of the negotiations thus far?"

He wasn't talking about that.

"Oh. they've gone exceedingly well, considering the circumstances," says Tremas. "In fact, Andran is expecting to conclude a formal settlement within the next few days."

(Oh, I know, but Galahad can have a sense of humor, can't he?)

"Really?" Galahad says, somewhat uneasy. "I trust he is being incredibly thorough and covering all issues?"

(Not about 'that', he doesn't. Nor does anyone. You shudder slightly. Never quite the same... he's right there.).

"You know Andran," says Tremas. "Everything as watertight as it can be. Drakkon is willing to make concessions; it's only the precise details that need working out."

Before I continue, to keep the Imperial attack from proceeding, the Senate has to a) still be here working on negotiations or b) successfully finished with their mission and all issues covered and dealt with, yes?

Well, neither literally stops it, it would just make it look damn odd. Invading whilst the Senate is still there will obviously look like he has no reagrd foir the safety of the Senate, which is pretty bad.

And invading if there has been a deal concluded... well, that would just be a literal invasion of a sovereign world! There is no possible excuse they could use- the one they are using is peacekeeping. They can't do that if there is no keeping needed.

Hmm.

"Well, that is great news! What concessions, exactly?"

"Technical details. I think elections are the biggest problem. Why don't you ask Andran himself? I am sure he'll speak to you."

"Splendid, I will do so."

Galahad wishes to be shown the way, then will go to Andran himself.

Would it be rude to bring my delegation with me to him?

Not at all. Andran is an exceptionally busy man, so it takes about 30 minutes, but you are not unimportant yourself, so he's not put out coming to meet you.

VERY important man, Andran. He might be the most powerful Senator there is. Hundreds of worlds follow his word, and their Senators vote accordingly. Thousands more are influenced by him.

He's getting on a bit now, though; his cream-coloured robes are matched by a paler fade than normal, and wrinkles, and a white beard. But he;s far from downcast or inactive.

You are meeting within the grand meeting chamber of the lodge, a fantastic construction of wood and carapace, with a view overloking the entire city and the jungle around it.

He comes in flanked by two guards in blue.

"Senator Galahad..." he says. "What an unexpected pleasure!"

(Any actors I should keep in mind for Andran? And what world is he from?)

"Senator Andran, the pleasure is mine," Galahad says with a neat bow, presuming that the rest of the delegation will do the same. Galahad considers himself amongst one of the Senators influenced by Andran.

"It should not be too entirely unexpected, I have been intending to observe the proceedings since before their initiation. But an issue arose with my wife, and I could not be present. I apologize in advance, regardless of whether or not I need to."

I'll get back to you on those.

"I do hope she is well," says Andran. "But you surprise me; few would come to this place unless they had to. It's not a place for civilised society."

"That I do not mind in the least; I have visited hundreds of planets in my life time, and have probably experienced much worse than Lanzar. This place does not seem too inhospitable, within the city walls."

"It's the company that's unpleasant," says Andran. "It's a deep-rooted problem; this was never a model society."

He is played by Martin Sheen, by the way.

(Ah, Mr. President...)

"I daresay it was not," Galahad agrees. "But come, tell me of your progress! Senator Tremas says you seek to end this in a few days! That is splendid news!"

"Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves," says Andran. "I think we have settled most of the major issues, we just need to make sure that Drakkon can have a solid legal claim as leader and then... well, after that, only time can tell."

"I see," Galahad says, keeping note of that. "What were the major issues covered thus far?"

"Stopping the fighting, stability, returning to Imperial Control, and the legitimacy of the Government. If you want me to explain the sub-issues inside each of those we'll be here for days."

OK, while Galahad is dealing with that, we need to brainstorm, we still don't know what exactly to do...
I'm working on something to help with that, I should have it later today.
