Captain America's super serum was/is a gadget. Every time Hourman injects himself with serum it temporarily grants him one hour of super strength, super speed etc. Captain America is the same, except his gadget is permanent. Just because it works longer doesn't mean its not a gadget. Just because its artificially a part of him doesn't mean its not a gadget.

"a device that is very useful for a particular job"

Yes, the super serum is an amalgamation of Vita-Ray radiating machines, oral chemical solutions, and exotic chemicals in intravenous needles. He is taking all these and turning it into one giant gadget for a particular job: physiological enhancement. It IS a gadget.

Wow so are shoes a gadget as well now, how about pants they serve a purpose and are a gadget by your loose definition. I am a bit troubled by your gadget thing did you want them to fight naked huh? Its ok you can admit it here.

Captain America is Steve Rogers with the serum its not a gadget do I need to find a different dictionary with easier words for you?

and

2. Aren't you the guy that said Batman would lose because of an open chin? 🙄

P.S. - The whole eye gauging thing was just a joke because I was mad at the whole chin argument. Sorry.

This is the definition you gave me

n : a device that is very useful for a particular job [syn: appliance, contraption, contrivance, convenience, gizmo, gismo, widget]

Now lets look at device.

Device:
A contrivance or an invention serving a particular purpose, especially a machine used to perform one or more relatively simple tasks.

Really then, don't joke about the definition of a gadget. Steve Rogers wasn't just zapped by the Gods or born a super hero, he had needles injected into him, chemical drinks pouring down his larynx, and Vita-Ray radiation from across the EM spectrum. And you're the only one that suggested the superheroes fight naked. That was you.

The Super Soldier Serum is a part of who Cap is... if the post had said "Steve Rogers (no shield) vs. Batman (No Gadgets) then there could be no contest, and a really weak fight.

I think it's up in the air. They're both great characters!

Yes VERY GOOD Mrheavysilence now here's a little bit more homework for you since you want to split hairs ok. Look up Captain America and post his definition here as well, good boy.

And also, please don't patronize me. It's really not cool =/

Stop splitting hairs with people over the use of the word gadget and its meaning . Then I'll stop patronizing you🙂

do you know that every martial artist in the world will tell you that the chin is the best place on the face to hit a man in order to knock him out?

😆You're bringing that stuff on yourself. Stop w/this serum is a gadget stuff. You're making yourself look very desperate for a Batwin. If Cap shot up before each fight you may have something. He doesn't & you don't. SSS is a part of him now. Are knives a part of Bruce Wayne? You're making Bats look like he doesn't stand a chance unless he's got weapons. You're hurting the Batcause w/this foolishness.

he's got a point.

Dude, the chin portion of Batman's suit is protected anyway. I'm just p.o.ed that you think something so simple is going to lead to Bruce losing. Because he might have an open chin. Thus, I countered with the eye argument. Both are equally stupid.

I'm not desperate, there's already tons of stuff to show that Bruce is better than Steve, but then you hassled about the knives. Captain America "shot up" enough for the rest of his life. Its part of him, artificially, just like Hourman. Its just a silly super serum right? Let's take that away from him and lets see how well he does gets Bruce Wayne. You're making Caps look like even though he learned "every martial arts form known to man" he doesn't stand a scrawny chance in hell unless he's got radiation and needles on his side. Refute the definition of "gadgetry" first. The thread says no gadgets , no shields.

Where does it say that the definition of gadgetry includes "time span" and "size." Its a physiological enhancement.

Oh here we go again, do we want to play this game?

I have no doubt that you are a billion times smarter than me. Now you can apply that intelligence to refuting.

Device:
A contrivance or an invention serving a particular purpose, especially a machine used to perform one or more relatively simple tasks.

So with your definition they have to fight naked as well, I mean are you going to use your ABSOLUTE defintion of this word as you see it?

🙁 Sad sad stuff. If the serum was part of hourman, he wouldn't need to shoot up anymore. You're only making yourself look like a fanboy son. People are gonna lose all respect for your opinion after a while. Stop it, for your own good. Cap can't just say "Okay I'm just preserum Steve now". Bats CAN say "I'm not a pu$$y so I don't need knives in a h2h contest"

device

n 1: an instrumentality invented for a particular purpose; "the device is small enough to wear on your wrist"; "a device intended to conserve water" 2: something in an artistic work designed to achieve a particular effect 3: any clever (deceptive) maneuver; "he would stoop to any device to win a point" [syn: gimmick, twist] 4: any ornamental pattern or design (as in embroidery) 5: an emblematic design (especially in heraldry); "he was recognized by the device on his shield"

WOW not only did I find the definition but I also found a sentance using the word correctly and for its intended purpose. Strangely enough I didn't find your perverted use of the word in there not once.
I think its time you go back to learning a word a day and using it in proper context.

Finally, we're getting somewhere. I find that

1) You can't really refute my definition except "EWW, the superheroes might have to fight naked!"

2) You haven't found any sources to say the definition is wrong

3) "If the serum was part of hourman, he wouldn't need to shoot up anymore".

Brainchild81, for the duration of an hour, it IS part of him. It changes his metabolism, his physiology: everything in the same way Captain America's super serum works, except that the serum works on forever, like artificial nanomachines. There's no mention of time span or size in the definition of gadget or device. Gadgets can go on forever. The thing you're saying is that Captain America's super serum isn't a gadget because its a part of him- in what sense? In the physiological sense. Its an enhancement. An enhancement is an invention serving a particular purpose. Why do you guys have to be such A-holes about what I'm saying. "Oh you're going to lose your respect, oh your a fanboy, oh snap! superheroes fighting naked? You can't be right!"

Instrument:
1) A means by which something is done; an agency.

2) One used by another to accomplish a purpose; a dupe.

3) An implement used to facilitate work. See Synonyms at tool.

4) A device for recording, measuring, or controlling, especially such a

5) device functioning as part of a control system.
Music. A device for playing or producing music: a keyboard instrument.

I don't see how my definition contradicts any of the definitions of an instrument i.e. instrumentality, which are used in YOUR definition. It's all pretty much the same. There's no concrete refutation because you're just being a jerk.
