Racially Insensitive, Racist, Or Not?

Your logic is flawed, If someone has the exact same experience as someone else then they can relate and understand each other, what does the fact they look different alter in the experience?

She can't relate anymore to being a black American just because she's experienced racism, than I can for having experienced it. If she believes otherwise, she's being stupid.

She knows more about her minority, and what it's like to be a part of that, than I do. Why? Because she is one. She doesn't know anymore than me about what it's like to be something that she isn't, that much is simple isn't it?

I can study a bear for 5 years. I don't know what it's like to be one anymore than you do.

Bad logic, a bear is a completely different species.comparing a bear and a human to a human and human is bad logic.

replace 'bears' with 'eskimos'

oh you read about it. well, i took a class on women's history/sexism in america, so i guess i'm a expert on the plight of women. [/heavy sarcasm]

and yes, once again, since you seem to love to take my quote out of context, ''not to the magnitute everyone makes it out to be'' as in america, racist attitudes are less prevailant than classist attitudes, which i have no idea why i have to clarify....again.

Do not even go there.

Your university classes in America cannot hold a candle to ours in Britain, so thats not even worth talking about.

But yeah, please do tell how im taking your quote out of context. That is what you siad, is it not?

Predicted the reply.

So what? What you're studying doesn't matter. She's putting across the rationale of "I studied it for three years, so I know more about it."

No, she knows more about what she's TOLD it's like to be a black American. She doesn't know what it's actually like to be one.

A man can get a sex change and look way more like a woman than a man can, he still doesn't know what it's like to be an actual woman anymore than a man does.

Studying something means you know a lot going by what you've been taught. It doesn't mean you actually know what it's like to be there/be it.

Go study the holocaust for 3 years, walk up to a survivor and say "I know what it was like." We'll see how credible your studies are then.

If I lived the exact same conditions like an eskimo, I wouldn't kow how he feels because I'm of a different race. That's just a bad analogy.

Studying one for 3 years doesn't mean you know what it's like to be an eskimo though.

You don't know what it's like to be an eskimo just because you've read about it.

Why is that point so hard to grasp?

oh how pompous and eletist 🙄
you sure do know what its like to look down on others based on ignorance so perhaps i was mistaken on your expertise in discrimination.

yes it is.
and you continue to refuse to take it in the context of the post, do you not? dont think you're going to succesfully repeat a portion of my point and browbeat me into submission. i know what i meant, and everyone here seems to know as well given the lack of outrage. even you bring up economics to explain criminal activity in the ghetto but refuse to connect the dots as to why so many blacks are in jail.

ECONOMICS

CLASSISM (the poor stay poor, the middle class become poor, the rich get exponentially richer)

I said if I lived exactly like an eskimo all my life.

Then you know what it's like to live in the same elements.

You don't know what it's like to actually be born as, and live life as, an eskimo. A boy raised by wolves just knows what it's like to live like that through something else, not what it's like to be a wolf.

We'll get there sooner or later.

Sorry to jump in here, but are you from like Alaska???.

you slept in an igloo, had no electricity or contact with the outside world, wore animal pelts, and lived off of whatever life swam in the water? kudos to you then

Eskimos don't really live in igloos... 🙄

[edit]........Isn't igloo a weird word?........man igloo...that's a strange word.....

I said live "EXACTLY" like an eskimo, And stop comparing two different species.

Why? Oh, because it's damaging to your debate. Well, no sorry.

I don't care what you said, it doesn't matter how closely you replicate it. Unless you are born an eskimo, you won't know what it's like to actually be one. I've seen pictures of some frighteningly realistic sex "changes". So good that at first glance you really debate if it's a woman or not. Even at the few other glances.

Is it an actual, factual woman? Will that "man" ever know what it's like to be an actual female human being? No, he will never know.

some still do 😛
but yes, they have modernised in recent years, but then i guess that means we all know what its like to be an eskimo. or perhaps the reality is eskimos know a bit what its like to be us and not vice versa.

but debbie, technically you are wrong, since "igloo" is eskimo for "house" 😛 😛

God, I actually agree with you.......frusty

Not that I've really read any of this thread, but a white person can grow up in an all black neighborhood. They can walk, talk, eat, act all black, but still when they leave that neighborhood, they won't be treated the same AS being black and vice versa.

[edit] PVS you know what kind of igloo I'm talking about....blocks of ice.. 🙄

no, it destroys your logic, how can a comparison between two species be similar to a comparison of individuals of the same species?

If two eskimo's lived two diffrent lives, by your logic they could understand each others lives.
