Oh, Lil, quick question:I believe you said something before about classism being the new racism...or something...in a debate with PVS.
I could be taking longshots there.

no, it was i who said that classism is the new racism. of coarse im wrong...because i havent read about it for 28 years. i just listen to people and deduct.
like it or not lil, you equated poor with chav, which clearly implies a class system.
poor kid=chav
chav=trash
thus
poor kid=trash

So don't.

Majority of Chavs are working class people on benefits. How is that discriminatory?
It is the sad fact of our society.
Second - not ALL Chavs are poor, actually. Some are called so because they are rude, arrogant, wannabes who try very hard to impress people who also think they are someting worth impressing.
Their style? Who mentioned ANYTHING about the way they are dressed.
Perhaps you need to sort out your own misconceptions.
And ''I dont like thinking that way'' because frankly, chavs is another socialy constructed term...the sheer idea of using the term which has been so cleverly socialy manufactured is somewhat cringe inducing.

"Very working class, very chavvy."
You have trouble deducing how this is discriminatory? You said yourself it's how they look.

I live in East London. Education on "chav" not needed.

How do you know they're a chav otherwise? You wouldn't call a rude, arrogant wannabe, a chav if he was a lawyer wearing a suit, would you? Chav applies to a class, like "yuppie" did.

Yes, clearly it's me in light of every post you've made here.

So why do it?

Sometimes a bleached-white, ex-Black dude (who can sing and dance good), and has a preference for infants can say it best:
Theres a place in
Your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could
Be much
Brighter than tomorrow
And if you really try
Youll find theres no need
To cry
In this place youll feel
Theres no hurt or sorrow
There are ways
To get there
If you care enough
For the living
Make a little space
Make a better place...
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
If you want to know why
Theres a love that
Cannot lie
Love is strong
It only cares for
Joyful giving
If we try
We shall see
In this bliss
We cannot feel
Fear or dread
We stop existing and
Start living
Then it feels that always
Loves enough for
Us growing
So make a better world
Make a better world...
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough
For the living
Make a better place
For you and for me
And the dream we were
Conceived in
Will reveal a joyful face
And the world we
Once believed in
Will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep
Strangling life
Wound this earth
Crucify its soul
Though its plain to see
This world is heavenly
Be gods glow
We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart
I feel you are all
My brothers
Create a world with
No fear
Together we cry
Happy tears
See the nations turn
Their swords
Into plowshares
We could really get there
If you cared enough
For the living
Make a little space
To make a better place...
Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me
And the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough

I love when you enter the thread with a song or a rhyme or a clever saying.
In fact, I just generally love you...
hey, its nothing to be ashamed of, so long as you focus less on being right, and more on being truthful. i think most of us, whether or not we choose to be, are classists. we tend to shy away from poor people and maybe even look down on them at times. oh so many of us donate to charity, but whats easier than throwing some change at an organization which then donates some of that money?
whats important is to recognise how trained we have become in looking down at the less fortunate while the overprivileged look down on us...and as you said, to try our best to undo that conditioning.
i think that is the root of poverty in this day and age...at least in america: distraction, apathy, and a feeling that we deserve more since our wallets are fatter, we drive better cars, and have these nifty computers. ect. and that just means that we're better.
instead we focus on racism toward blacks, which in the progressive side (least red) of america is going the way of the dinosaur. but they still hate blacks, just now they hate poor blacks...and poor whites...and poor hispanics....etc
but i was mistaken. racism has grown immensly in america, but im pleased to announce that black people can breath a sigh of releaf, since the new "n____'s" appear to be mexicans, central and south americans, and especially those of arab decent. but thats off topic i suppose.
:edit: actually, strike hipanics from that since thats also a class issue.
I agree with Blue Noctrune, race doesn't exist as specifically defined groups. There are physical differences between and among different regional groups but I think that's just an adaption to their environment.
Logic won't allow me to accept that someone who's light brown with an afro is the same "race" of human being as someone who's dark brown/black but a different race than someone with tan/brown skin and straight hair. Why is someone with pasty white freckled skin and red hair the same race as someone with black hair and smooth peach/light tan skin? It's just far too varied for me to accept the classified "races" as valid. I believe it's more of a spectrum of physical difference rather than a few specific groups.

I claimed i can empathise with them, not that I am one.

If thats the best you can do, then I think we should stop discussion right here.
How arrogant can one person get. Seriously, so far you have been the only one in this thread who is racist, against PVS being white, yes white is a race as well...and elitist, also against PVS because he is American and therefore his education must suck, besides that you are sexist, not in this thread but I thought mentioning it would do no harm. You should really consider to start to stand for what you claim to be fighting for.
bit of a taboo subject you guys have going on here 😛
IMO.. at this point and time.. everything 'uncool' relates with being caucasian... (ie.. cant dance, cant sing, has no 'style' and so forth)... and such is the exact opposite for being black.... just by media alone you can see this...
from my standpoint, this doesnt bother me because I love stereotypes, and I love being able to laugh about it..call me honkey, I dont give a damn... others however may not have that outlook, which would directly relate to the topic
"Is saying negro racist, etc?"
being that it is most generally used in a derogatory context, I would say that it would more often than not hurt someones feelings.. I just say 'black' anyways...
the most interesting thing about this thread though is that it still proves that noone has moved forward on this kind of issue...
'everyone' has a bit of racist in them... so theres my two cents 😬

I don't look down on the poor, and besides classims overshadows racism by far. Regardless of race green is the color that everyone respects when you go high up in society you realize how little race matters, it's money that does.
