You guys thought I wasn't being serious?...ok
Heightism is as big an issue as racism...
Nothing's funny, punks. Discrimination based on height robs talented but physically challenged people of good professional jobs. Although heightism is a form of discrimination like racism is, i digress. The issue is racism.

hey, its nothing to be ashamed of, so long as you focus less on being right, and more on being truthful. i think most of us, whether or not we choose to be, are classists. we tend to shy away from poor people and maybe even look down on them at times. oh so many of us donate to charity, but whats easier than throwing some change at an organization which then donates some of that money?whats important is to recognise how trained we have become in looking down at the less fortunate while the overprivileged look down on us...and as you said, to try our best to undo that conditioning.
i think that is the root of poverty in this day and age...at least in america: distraction, apathy, and a feeling that we deserve more since our wallets are fatter, we drive better cars, and have these nifty computers. ect. and that just means that we're better.instead we focus on racism toward blacks, which in the progressive side (least red) of america is going the way of the dinosaur. but they still hate blacks, just now they hate poor blacks...and poor whites...and poor hispanics....etc
but i was mistaken. racism has grown immensly in america, but im pleased to announce that black people can breath a sigh of releaf, since the new "n____'s" appear to be mexicans, central and south americans, and especially those of arab decent. but thats off topic i suppose.
:edit: actually, strike hipanics from that since thats also a class issue.
As far as England goes (dunno how it is in America) middle class for the most part simply do not come in contact with working class - even universities - the numbers of people who are working class at unis is so low! Its not so much weird, as it is shameful.
I wouldn't say I look down on anyone, especially for their class - chavs, as I said above tend to be poor. I never said that all poor are chavs, and I senceraly apologise if it came across that way.
(for the non-poor chavs, take a look at Roony, Beckham, Jodie Marsh, Jordan, Peter Andre...etc...that Jade weirdo - and i know American;s wouldnt know most of these people, but trust me when i say - its good you don't)
I do not agree with classism being the new racism.
Classism cannot be the new racism because, in class, there is the 'social mobility' - and certain people may be lucky enough to get through the net of class (illegal or legal means).
So-called ''race'' does not have an option of mobility.
(unless of course you look at Michael Jackson - but I think hes more of a species mobility example, rather than a racial mobility example)

Depends on where you live in the US as far as middle class coming in "contact" with the working class. Not to mention the working class can be in the middle class just depends on the industry they are in and where they live in the USA.

Where in the US are the working class more likely to be in contact with middle class, and where less?
What do you guys see as working class? Is it industry related, or people on benefits.
In england, its usually people on benefits which are seen as 'working class' (In Englad, benefits go on and on, there is no time limit as to how long you can recieve them)

middle class in america is pretty much everyone except the extremely wealthy and powerful to the underclass and homeless. even most of the rich pricks driving their hummer3's and living in million dollar homes are technically middle class. so i guess they fall under different definitions there.

all i was pointing out was that your mind made a connection, as mine did when i made the connection in assuming they were mostly poor. when i said "nothing to be ashamed of" i wasnt patronising or ribbing you, i meant it. we are conditioned to be sympathetic, yet feel superior to the poor. in those words it sounds harsh and untrue, but how else can it be put? i'll try better:
i laugh my ass off when i watch tv and see some mullet head white trash trying to run from the cops after being caught dealing meth, but then, by conditioning, i connect that criminal to trailer parks, low wages, etc. its a steriotype, i know. its wrong, i know. but through conditioning thats my instinctive reaction. what really doesnt help is the fact that in the case of the underclass, the minority of criminals make the headlines.
...same for predominately black city ghettos. people in general (facists aside) dont really tend to fear blacks anymore. now they fear black thugs, as well as white trash. their fear, however having elements of racism, seem to be dominated by a fear of...criminals. since most criminals who are caught are poor, the fear is perpetuated. and the big problem is...statictically its true. the more poor a neighborhood, the greater the reported crime rate. so how do we solve that? well, we probably cant, but acknowledgement is certainly the first step.

this is what i disagree with
in america black people have the same opportunities as far as higher education and jobs (of coarse i speak for the new york metro area and cant vouche for the red states). i got through college on a stafford loan which is available to anyone and everyone for tuition fees, and minorities are privileged to even more tuition aid and scholarships (im not sure if being poor is even a requirement either.)
your theory certainly applied pre-1960's, but its not the same.
there is no impossible to break barrier based on race...there are slums based on income. and THAT is the barrier imho. no jobs in the area, failing school systems, kids easily falling under the influence of gangs/criminals because thats the only option they think they have...which is pretty much the same for "white trash". our society offers little to those who have little.
Classism isn't as BAD as Racism and Sexism are,
but Classism is definately more common I think. Money speaks louder than anything else.
If there's a fancy restaurant lets say run by white conservatives, the minute a GAy person or Black person walk in who have TONS OF CASH (and are well known for it) they get treated with respect, SIMPLY over the fact that they are loaded $$$$
Gorgeous women will marry ugly fat rich men, mostly because they are rich as hell and can support them indefinately. SAme for ugly rich women and gorgeous young men.

Actually, I'm taking spanish class and ***** does mean black in spanish. If I may get my point across, the word Negro is a racist term in my opinon (oviously). I would say that because of how the people of that race (african amercans etc), takes the word offensively. Using common sense, of course it would be considered as a racial term if they disapprove of it. In words, if I may sound so odd, each word literally doesn't mean anything, and is a form of communication, but that doesn't fit anywhere in here does it?
I think that it is a racial term however because before, African Amercans were slaves, and the term that called them N****s, where commonly used. Well, eventually when they were free from slavery, the term Ni*** or N****, does sort of (For some) remind them of when they are enslaved, and thus causing them to loathe the word. (for some mind you.) I know I'm trying to sound smart but uh.. that's just all I would say for that for the time being. o.o" don't hurt me.
Negro means the COLOR black in Spanish, genuis. It's a derogatory word in spanish however, that means "black person"
In South America they use the word "negro" to address black people, but its out of disrespect usually. Trust me, im South American, i know.
The same way they EASILY use "gordo" or "flako" to call someone by thier physical characteristics, theres no being "politically correct" in South America.
I think the word he MEANT was "n-i-g-g-e-r-"
Calling a black person "oye, negro" in spanish is like saying "hey nig-ger" in English.
