Yeah, the cheapie non-sharp swords are ugly looking. Nice pick!
As for guns....well there are times guns get jam...you can never depend on a gun. Whereas a swords...they're always have the sharp edge. 😉
Hmmm. I would have imagined the most extreme damage possible would be death, as in mortal damage - now both guns and swords can cause death, and both can be pretty gory, the operative word being "can" - now an extremely precise blade strike can cause death with a minimal amount of mess - which doesn't mean it hasn't caused a great deal of damage, just a really concentrated amount - it's ability to scar or mutilate is great, but that doesn't mean it's better at dealing the highest form of damage. But for those without that degree of finesse (as in a good portion of sword users through the ages) commonly it causes a great amount of apparent damage to get to that killing stage - great big gashes, cuts, and the like - which can be survived. Killing instantly, baring beheading and precise strikes, with a blade, is a hard thing to do - when compared with a gun.
Now the gun - which gun? High calibre weapons, shot guns, automatic, ammo types etc - if they hit, then that's a lot of damage, a lot of visible damage, that is equally, if not far more likely to kill you then getting badly cut up (the whole penetration factor) - that and distance is a big, big plus. Likewise it's far easier causing that swift, precise damage with a gun that kills without needing to cause an unduly large amount of external physical damage (especially with guns that leave small entry and exit wounds) - whereas it takes more work with a sword. So I guess depending on what one was trying to do, and the type of weapon involved guns can deal a greater, quicker amount of mortal damage then a sword at a longer range.
Personally though I prefer a well crafted sword. The feel of something like that, something well balanced and honed, is wonderful. Even if it's only an aesthetic appreciation.

do you think its true a sword can block a bullet? i dont think so
Actually it might be possible to do so, or if not fully block it deflect it at least. Of course the problem is that most types of bullet would mess up a sword pretty badly. That, and since swords aren't particularly shield like, and with the speed bullets travel, well it would be very hard. Even if you block one it's unlikely you could block them all (especially with guns with a high rate of fire), that, or the sword might very well brake. You might get lucky, but unless one was some sort of fictional character consistently skilled in that kind of thing, well, I wouldn't like to bet the farm on blocking bullets with a sword.
people here are going way on top of their heads with the TYPES of guns. i mean cmon, if ur gona use an M60 light machine gun or a 50 cal with a firing speed of over 2000 rounds per minutes than OFCOURSE ur gonna go beyond swords. heck while were at it why dont i just add a 35 millimetere heavy machine gun with depleted uranium bullets and a firing speed of 12000 rounds per minute!{that was the one shown in comparison to the wokswagon beatle a few pages back} or HEY. lets forget normal guns at all. lets talk abotu RAIL guns, which can give a saingle pellet the velocity of 20 kilometres per second! and an energy of 10 MEGAJOULES{which is onmly the beginnning}. what im sayin is that youy should judge blades against handguns/shotguns n normal single fire rifles etc{the ones that are used at normal/close ranges and are anti personal. ask any good soldier what hes use at close encounters, knife or handgun. hed say knife, n even though knives dont compare to swords, knife wounds{caused by a proper knife} are still many many tmies more likely to kill/incapacitae you than a handgun/submachine gun or rifle bullet. n proper swords{that is properly built katans etc}are almost 100% lethal. ask a doctor people with sword wounds will almost always die. now as far as deflecting a bullet goes, a good folded sword with a blade with high resonance factor can easily deflect normal handguin n rifle bullets, but that is IF the bullet makes contact with the steal{which btw, no man is crazy enough to try n block bullets with a sword, no mattre how skilled}

oh hey i forgot another gun. dont remember the exact name but it reached the highest firing rate in the world16666 bullets per SECOND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That would be the 'Metal Storm', consisting of numerous barrels pre-filled with large amounts of bullets in each, that get electricity passed through them, firing the bullets in every barrel with almost no delay between, causing a tremendous rate of fire as it needs no reloading or cooling systems. A 'one' shot weapon, but delivers hell as it is fired.
