**** no , first it's a damn vorpal blade . Secondly the sheathe makes it's wearer unbetable.......
My Arthurian knowledge is a bit rusty, but didn't he get beaten in the end? I don't think he left his sheathe at home that day (though I guess the other sword might to have been magic) but he was mortally wounded by his enemy who was wielding another sword.
Guns do like 2d6 damage where longswords do 1d8.
So guns do more damge than swords, unless one has a really big strength modifier, uses Power Attack, or is a gish and uses Arcane Strike. Paladins using Smite Evil and full power attack with a crit-specialized weapon are scary.
Oh, dear, I'm afraid I've gone quite insane.

Just a little thing that has my curiosity worked to the bone .Which does more damage a gun or a sword ?
Think about it , a bullet can hit it's target in the arm , and the victim can survive . Yet a well placed sword stroke and suddenly the victim needs an amputation . It honestly makes me wonder.....
The pen.
The Pen Is Mightier the The sword.
Easpecially the earlier version with lead content.

Then you chuck higher level magics into the mix, maybe futuristic things like portable Tesla coils, and things get really messy.

Guns..need permission/practice/luck/uncertain result=bullet has a small size. Sword...freedom/never miss/perfect defense/guaranteed=blade is long and cuts how you want.
Well, not always. And one of the big things with a gun is you don't need a huge amount of experience for it to be dangerous.
After all, one of the reasons Knights and the like didn't like bows and early gunpowder weapons was there was no defence against it. Whats the use of spending all your life becoming a monster with a sword when a peasant with a gun can take you out from a hundred metre with a lucky shot.
And you can miss with sword, and if your opponent is also skilled with swords it also gets difficult.

I'm just comparing between law & self defense. Today's world.
Ok. Although those that represent the law use guns. And it's far more common for people to defend themselves with guns then swords.
Hmmm. There was a case here not long ago, two home invaders broke into some guys house armed with swords, waving them around, threatening his family and all that - at which point the guy grabbed the sword off one of them, and proceeded to mortally wound him. The other invader escaped.
So the home invaders had surprise, fear and weapons on their side, but it still didn't help them.
