In the case of Alpha Centuri I believe it is too far away to verify it's anything but another bright point in the sky by using anything other than expensive scientific equipment. Any pictures can be edited fairly easily with modern technology. Essentially you have to take someone's word about it being a star system just as you have to take someone's word on hell really existing. Unless you are personally an expert on a subject you are forced to take most information about it on faith, or assume a conspiracy.

I don't care what Alpha Centuri is. I am simply saying that is does exist. You can go outside at night a see it. That is a very low standard. We can go outside and point to it. Now, do me the same favor with hell. Point to it. Give me it's location in the universe. I'm not asking what it is, just give me the simplest evidence.

I can't. No sane person can. That's not a reason to believe it doesn't exist. All it means is that you can't reasonably demand that someone else should believe in it. On the same note, provide basic evidence that Alpha Centuri is anything but a random point of light.

But that was not the argument. I asked Grand-Moff-Gav if hell was real, and generally he said yes. I then asked him for evidence. I can show you evidence for hell being a state of mind, but you have to very narrow in what hell is.
