That's the spirit. One thing that gets me, as I discussed with a friend, is what exactly do you get/would you get out of England winning? Life remains the same, as can be said when they lose.
Nothing changes. Some people actually act like their life is worse now. If Brazil got knocked out tonight, it'd suck, but I'll be over it by morning.
Why does it matter?

I guess it's because the World Cup becomes a little less interesting on a personal level. I will still enjoy watching the games, but without England's involvement the passion I have for it is reduced.

Why should, my country didnt qualify but its not the end of the world nor is it the end of futbol for me.
there isnt really an excuse for that game, we played well and lost... the only regret is it came down to penalties.
Rooney red was harsh, but he did push him... it wouldn't have made a difference anyway, when Crouch came on he did more than Rooney, held the ball up well, he's just shit at finishing... and if Rooney hadnt been sent of Crouch wouldnt have come on.
Hargreaves was fantastic, brilliant game.... Lennon was sporadically stunning.
Gutted, even more so that it was that nancy-boy Ronaldo who finished it, he's just one of those people who looks like a ****, and inevitably is.
thankfully Sven is out now, he's wasted England's talent long enough... i doubt McClaren will do much better, but fingers crossed.

That the World Cup now is less interesting to you now since your country is not in it now.
Oh... well of course I would have loved to see my country in it and yes it would make it more interesting but I like soccer so much that it really doesnt matter if my country made it or not.

And that's the whole point:
World Cup = great
World Cup with the Team you cheer for in = better

I understand that, but as I said before, I'm curious as to why people get so sad, your life isn't worse, nor would it be better if they won.Unless a football team winning a trophy does make your life better, in which case we might as well say "life".

it isnt better in a 'wow i won the lottery' way... it's just better in the way that you're slightly happier/sadder

Well, it would certainly happy if Germany would win. So, yes, I guess it would make my life better, to some extend. Not soo much that I would kill myself if it wouldn't happen.
I mean it's like that with a lot of things. I mean, if Radiohead or Tool would disband now, wouldn't you be kind of unhappy about it? And being unhappy does at least make my life a little worse. I like being happy.
