I find it funny that the NBA thread is gettin more play when it's in the offseson. I assume there isnt a lot of baseball fanatics on this board ❌
Yankees!!! we got Matsui back and Sheffield is on his way, though im a little concerned for Mussina. We got Johnson and Wang going but Mussina has been in a sort of a slump. I hope he can pull it together before the playoffs start. If we can get our top 3 going and the way we our swinging the bats now I see us doing great things in the postseason.
Who you guys think should win the AL MVP??? I got Jeter, but im biased as hell.
Howard so clearly should win the NL

It is funny and has been addressed a page ago.
As far as the Mvp race the AL is a toss up I dont see a front runner but I think Ortiz should be out of the discussion considering the sox's will miss the playoffs.
The NL Howard has had a sick year and if the phills make the playoffs he should get the nod but if they dont he should not. If its all about how many homeruns and RBI's on a team that misses the playoffs Sosa should have like 5 Mvps but he was on losing teams with alot of solo shots For a four year stretch he averaed 60 Hrs and 150 RBI's. Right now I have Howard then Pujols followed by Beltran. If the phills miss the playoffs I have to go with Pujols considering he is the Cardinals with very little protection Edmonds has been god awful and Rolen had a decent year but its always on Alberts shoulders And In my opinon the MVP should come from a Winning team but Honestly I hope the phills make it so Howard a young star cant get his MVP cause he does deserve it.

hater! you care to elaborate on that...?
1. The Yankees got hot a little to early, so they won't be playing as good as they were.
2. The Twins have really good pitching. The Yankees rely on the offense, if they don't do pretty good, they can't win. It would be hard to rely on Wang, Mussina, Johnson and everybody else.
3. This Yankee team is virtually the same, except for Abreu, right? Last year they lost to the Angels. The Twins and Tigers this year > the Angels of last year. Abreu is good, but adding one player does not mean you are that much better.

Its not about what teams are better then the Angels of last year. Its about matchups. The Yankees I guess just match up poorly against the Angels that's is why they lose to them so often.
Abreu is good, but adding one player does not mean you are that much better.
YES IT DOES, were talking about Bobby Abreu here....
The Twins and Tigers this year > the Angels of last year.
and the Yankees > Twins and Tigers
It would be hard to rely on Wang, Mussina, Johnson and everybody else.
?
those are 3 relyable and predictable starters for the Yankees. Plus MO = greatest closer ever.
This Yankee team is virtually the same, except for Abreu, right?
*cough* damon *cough*
1. damon(22 HR) 2. jeter(.340 AVG) 3. abreu(97 RBI) 4. arod(34 HR,116 RBI) 5. Giambi(36 HR,109 RBI) 6. Cano(.338 AVG) 7. Posada(19 HR, 84 RBI) 8. Sheffield 9. Matsui
Johnson- 17 wins
Wang- 17 wins
Mussina- 14 wins
Rivera- 33 saves
Yankees > any MLB team
Perfect games arnt the platuea to say how good the pitcher is. It's all luck.
Is Santana, Halladay, Willis, Peavy and the majority of the great pitchers in this league considered crappy because they havent come close to an perfect game? Nope.
17 wins, not bad, but really, look at his team.
His other numbers you failed to mention....thats right, he's lost 10 games... ERA is tad below 5.00. He must be getting really good run support with that ERA.
I would say if you put Johnson on any medicore team, that those almost perfect game, and 17 wins would never happened.
He is still a good pitcher, but hardly what he was or what you say he is.
remember he was on a mediocre team - ARI just 2 years ago. He did pretty well(understatement?).
his 10 losses came earlier in the season which is irrelevant because hes been on a tear as of late. That ERA has gone down lately but most of it came from when he stunk earlier this season. Right now he is where we need him to be.
You can not COUNT on Randy Johnson, Wand, Mussin, or anybody on the Yankees roster to get a win. They don't have a pitcher that when you see that he's pitching you say "Yep, that's a win for the Yankees." They can easily give up 6 or 7 runs, or 2-3 any game.
And what I am saying about Abreu is, if he was there last year, do you think they would have beaten the Angels? IMO, no they still wouldn't have. I forgot about Damon though, so now, yes, they would have beaten the Angels last year.
If the Yankees face the Twins, they face Santana twice. I think they lose both games. Then, all they have to do is outscore the Yankees once, which they can do angainst Johnson, Wang, or Mussina becaus each have the potential to have a bad game. The Yanks offense is great, but that doesn't mean they are going to score 7 or more runs every game. And yeah, Rivera is great, but you have to get to him first. He can't pick up a save if you are losing, and the Yankees bullpen isn't very good.

If they face the twins then yeah they will probaly lose when Santana is pitching, but besides him there is no other pitcher on that roster that can handle the yankee lineup...none. Last time the Yankees played the Twins I think twas 04(i maybe be wrong) and they lost to Santana the first game then Santana was started again in game 4 i think and they beat him. Santana isnt going to get 2 wins against the Yankees you can count on that.
Dont even mention the Tigers please, they're not even remotely good against the elite teams in league. If they end up playing im predicting a Yankee sweep.
A's I think will give them the most trouble but they dont have the offense to hang with them. The A's defense/pitching have gotten them to where they are right now but its not going to be enough to beat the yankees if they end up playing them in the 1st or second round.
To say no pitcher can handle the Yankees line-up is rediculous. Anything can happen in any game. Yankees may have a bad day hitting, or the Twins a really good day hitting.
In the beginning of the season, Yankees only score 2 runs against some pitcher named Mclung.(there was most likely a lot more, but I just felt like finding 1 game). And I know what you are going to say, "We didn't have Abreu." Well, you got shut out by the Loewen a little bit before the Red Sox series.(Again, I stopped after I found just one game)

I know anything can happen in any game but if you look at it on paper no pitcher can handle the yankees lineup. hell one of those pitchers might go out and throw a perfect game or a no hitter but its highly unlikely to happen, but Yankees are clearly "the" most feared lineup and to point a pitcher out in the twins lineup that isnt Santana and say hes going to handle the Yankees is ludacris, but as you said the yankees can have a bad hitting day. You never know because but on paper i would go with the yankees.

After reading this shit I have to say im utterly confused and angry. Confused as to why Giambi would approach Arod and say those things, confused as to why he would go to SI and "report" these conversations, and completely angered by the actions of Giambi.
First of all you let the coach or Jeter handle these things. I like Giambi but I love baseball and hes a steroid using prick who has no business confronting a non steroid user with better numbers than himself and challenge him. "You [expletive] call those hits?" Giambi said, are you kidding me??? Giambi is wayyy out of line here to challenge Arod to get the "big hit". Hes acting like a damn fan but its funny because the fans have actually stopped booing Arod and now Gimabi comes out with this shit, and IT PISSES ME OFF.
First it was Mussina who I love and I can see where he was coming from. Arod was in a slump and he was making almost all of his errors when Mussina was pitching, and Mussina wanted to say something about it, but go to the coach, go to arod but dont lash at him, go to the team captain, DO NOT GO TO THE PRESS.
This is seriously irritating me because they know Arod is having trouble with the New York media and to go feed the fire is just plain retarded. I serioulsy feel for Arod, i mean, the fans dont have his back, some of his teammates dont have his back and Giambi comes out and calls him a loner, maybe Lou Ferrigno should stfu take a step back and look at the big picture, maybe hes a loner because his teammates go to the media and bash him.
Im a Yankee fan but this is seriously getting to me

That was two years ago. Who cares.
He still has 10 losses. It doesnt matter if he was crap in the start of the league. I just dont think he is what he was.
And the ERA is still a crappy ERA....actually an really crappy ERA.

who cares about the ERA when you have 17 wins...its not like he isnt going to get the same run support in the playoffs. Im not stating hes Santana but hes a guy we can count on to go out and get the win and thats what hes going to do in the playoffs.
About this Arod situation:
I cant understand why ESPN is reporting shit like, he sleeps in a suit or he poses shirtless on a rock...WTF!!!?!??!
Does ESPN really need to reporting that kind of stuff...infuriating.
I dont condone him coming out and saying, Mussina makes so and so and Giambi makes so and so and they're not gettin bashed by the media in New York when they are in a slump but he makes a great f*cking point. ESPN and everybody else just needs to ease up off the guy. dont bash him for not coming through in the clutch or getting the "big hit" as Giambi calls it, I will always be a yankee fan but one thing I will not do is bash its players for being in a slump or not getting the big hit.
When New York was booing Arod I found it to be ridiculous for the simple fact that booing him isnt going to help him out. Its actually going to make things worse because hes going to try harder to please the fans. And the trade talks....come on now, when Arod is Arod hes capable of carrying this team on his back so im glad cashman threw that stupid idea out the window.
I like Jeter more then I like Arod but can you a help a brotha out???? I get the feeling him and Arod dont get along, for him not to step up and do something about this situation, because its clearly hurting the team.
