I'll probably get shit for this, but I thought Cerrone beat Diaz. Donald dropped Nate like six times with leg kicks... but those don't count as take downs or knock downs apparently. He was comfortably out struck with Diaz's weak pitter patter, but Nate getting dropped like that was embarrassing. If Cerrone had landed six take downs or dropped him with six head kicks, the score cards would have looked a lot different, and I'm not sure why leg sweeps are different.
I dont think even on the scorecards they would be that different. Its usually takedowns + control that scores big, not just takedowns alone. In a really close striking contest takedowns, or the leg sweeps would probably push it in your favour, but when the standup isn't even close, and you don't capitalise on getting your opponent down in any way, they don't count for much, takedown or sweep.
That being said I think it was a bit of a fluke and in a rematch Cerrone would soundly outstrike him. I think Nate got into his head and messed with his gameplan.

I thought Akiyama beat Shields too. Shields sux. He's done little in UFC besides get beat up and win a few by robbery.
