Hey, if you ever get around to your SW Revision again make sure under no circumstances should Yoda ever use a lightsaber. Yoda vs Dooku was painful to watch. Yoda's lightsaber never even gets close to hitting Dooku. He's just too short. Dooku never needed to actually block. Have him just kick ass with the Force, to cement that his size doesn't restrict him. This can also apply to Palpatine. If you do a scene where Mace tries to arrest him, just have him tear everything apart with the Force like a Wrathful God. Much more effective.

This is an old and understandable sentiment of many fans; and it's something I used to agree with. But looking back on the saga, I understand what George was getting at-- if the lightsaber is a Jedi's weapon {established in A New Hope verbatim by Obi-Wan}, it would make sense that Yoda would be proficient in its use. Of course my imagined Yoda only appears once in the first trilogy and for him to lift his lightsaber at all would be a rare thing. If he didn't use it, it would be because he has become so advanced with his Force powers that it wasn't necessary.

This can also apply to Palpatine.
Palpatine is a special case. Unlike Yoda, the reluctant warrior, Palpatine is simply {in my mind} an unusually lethal politician. Can he fight and maim and kill? Yes, but an establishing moment in Return of the Jedi is when Vader and Palpatine each take Luke's new lightsaber for the first time. Vader squeezes the hilt, inspects it closely, ignites it, etc. in an effort to examine the weapon as a warrior might. Palpatine, on the other hand, barely regards it and refers to it as "a Jedi's weapon," in effect separating himself from those who wield lightsabers.
Would he know how to use one? Again, I'd say it would be difficult to imagine that he wouldn't, but would he be a prolific duelist? I doubt it.

The last time I drafted a walkthrough of my reimagined trilogy, I envisioned the duel between Mace and Palpatine being fairly one-sided. Windu goes on the offensive and Palpatine defends himself by wielding the lightsabers of dead Jedi-- essentially, he is disarmed by Windu repeatedly and must continuously telekinetically snatch lightsabers from the lesser Jedi he's already killed through the Force before he finally runs out.

Who cares about as stupid a reason to have him use a lightsaber as 'its a jedi weapon.' So? Yoda using a lightsaber is dumb and doesn't make any sense. There can be other weapons the Jedi use. Though really, he shouldn't use any weapon if he fights. He's above such crude matter. Definately agree with that last line.

Wait, Palpatine is simply a politician? 😕
Are you re-writing the Original Trilogy as well? Because the OT doesn't need to be re-written. Sidious is great as a Sith lord. And he should be powerful, at least enough so that Vader doesn't just overthrow him.
But I agree with what you say about Palpatine distaining the use of a lightsaber.

Meh. Make it more epic imo.
If momentary lapses disqualified someone then we'd all be in the shit.
