facepalm
Why are you posting/quoting something that is under spoiler notices on every website everywhere? Some people want to go into this with the movie as unspoiled as possible, jackasses.
Anyway, it's probably had better be nothing more than a comparatively recent flashback, given that Pence is already playing young Ra's and at least one party in the film is going to need its ties to Ghul and motivations explained in the context of the time period the film takes place in.
I feel so bad for the people who have read the books already. I think the exhilaration from watching the show is greater.
Spoiler:
Seeing naked platinum-blonde hottie holding baby dragons as a rabble of ex-slaves bowed to her caused an intense bout of orthostatic hypotension the likes of which I've never experienced.
And it's only season one!

Later in a bout of sleep-deprived stupidity which I shall regre for the rest of my life I Wiki'd the fates of several characters all the way through the third book, which I highly recommend you do not do, although I will admit that on some level it changes the way I look at these characters for the better. I value the time spent with them as much as I thought I could for works of fiction and attend details with a focus that may otherwise have been lacking.
All that said, there is also a profound joy to be had in seeing the memorable characters and events from the book adapted so marvelously to the screen, and even when the show takes its small liberties it does nothing but add to the life of the work. Now that you've seen the first part you should really check out the first novel. Save the rest for later if you'd like, but definitely read Game of Thrones.
I, of course, will forge ahead with the next three books because I am impatient and have spoiled enough that I see no benefit in holding out.

I silently screamed "holy FUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK" at the end.

Spoiler:
Sean Bean will of course be missed, but the paths of Jon Snow, Daenerys/new khalasar/Ser Jorah/DRAGONS!, and [largely thanks to the show] Robb and the Northerners, will more than adequately fill the void he leaves.
The ending sequence was the scene I was most anxious about and the most nervous for. It did not disapoint!
Spoiler:
Those dragons looked great! The rest of the episode was great as well. Jon's ending was perfectly set up and Arrya is amazing. I also really felt for Rob this episode something I never really did in the books.
Edit: Also Rickon!

See, I saw the first several episodes and decided to check out the book, which I then literally did not put down until I had turned the last page: I don't think I've read something that rapturously in years.
Same. I quickly read through all of the novels and was simply unable to put them down. Hurt my finals pretty bad to be honest.
The delivery of a few lines in particular was ball-droppingly awesome.
Spoiler:
Sansa ("Or maybe he'll give me yours"😉 and Jaime Lannister ("There are no men like me"😉. Ser Jorah is perfect. Also Robb. I heart Robb, and everything he says or does. I even appreciate Theon. And Bran and Rickon and Shaggydoooggggg.
Peter Dinklage is gold, as ever. Cersei Lannister never ceases to creep me out even though I can't not empathize with her just a little [not on the incestuous front, the other stuff].
Okay I need to stop. I love everybody I NEED TO STOP AND WATCH IT AGAIN.
Best episode of the series, and that truly is a spectacular accomplishment.
In Mass Effect, they reduce a ship's mass to allow for FTL (aside from this not actually working) there is an interesting consequence that comes along with that.
Everything we see, the size of objects, depend on the size of the atoms that make them up. The size of an atom is determined by the radius of the orbiting electrons and in turn, this orbit is determined by the mass of the electrons. The higher the mass, the more distant the orbits, the lower, the closer the orbits. Electrons have a set mass (theorized from the Higg's Boson,) but in a mass effect field, their mass would shrink. Their orbits would shrink and thus, the atoms would shrink.
