The Phoenix Force is the Big Bang of any given reality as stated and as such the origin point for all energy in a universe in a similar fashion to DC's Source (something the Phoenix Force was linked to in the X-men/Teen Titans crossover of the 80's)

F4 has stated such a role for the Phoenix on many occassions. New X-men portrays Phoenix as an overseer of the multiverse that manifests in reality to fix anything which might impede the creation cycle. Uncanny X-men has many references of Phoenix maintaining the creation cycle. Ask for scans and i'll be happy to provide.
