I'm pretty sure they still do that in a lot of places in Africa. So if you had a gay marriage in Niger, would the "woman" in the relationship be offered for say, goats or social prominence?

I think it is way more widespread than that. Many insular immigrant communities in the western world are still continuing the tradition of arranged marriges, if not the direct selling of their daughters.
