Sorry, I have not been on the forum all weekend. There is a lot have have not read back on.

There are a large number of Christians who believe that the Earth is a little older then 6,000 years old. They also believe that this is a biblically supported belief. You will need to ask one of them.

I am aware, I was arguing with one recently.

However, you said "according to Christianity" a few fundamentalists do not represent Christianity...no matter how loud they shout.

The Vatican is funding a large Convention in Rome to celebrate Darwin's Origins of Species this year- clearly, they don't see a conflict between Creation and Evolution.

It is a problem of convenience. There are too many beliefs in Christianity to generalize almost any thing, but what am I to do?

Rather than say, according to Christianity say, according to Creationists. Theres no real excuse for tarring the religion of 2billion or so people...

I don't know what a "Creationists" is. Are they Christian? Or some other type of religion?
😉

One in every 200 Christians? Generalizing that to the others is insulting and fallacious.

How do you know it is that small? I was only guessing. The number could be much higher.

As far as insulting and fallacious; if you are upset by people who can only see the fundamentalist Christians, then you should talk with the fundamentalist Christians. They are the ones who are causing the trouble. I am only speaking to what I know. It was only a few years ago that I thought all Christians were evil. Now I know there are a few good Christians. If there are more, then were are they?

It does boil down to a squeaky wheel.

exactly, what are people of other religions supposed to think? especially when the active voices for the christians are radical fundamentalists? if you want a positive image of christianity, put one out.

I think a lot of moderates are afraid (and very rightly so) that if they express themselves anti-theists will lump them in with fundamentalists and fundamentalists will simply claim that they're not "really" Christians.

And the Vatican fired their last Astronomer for saying Evolution was proven.
Darn.
Well anyways if one would look at this "event" that the Vatican is holding, they would see that it is just a tribute to the science Darwin did. That being said, the Church has and will not accept Evolution as can be seen by its many crack-downs against it (such as the statement above). The Bible is completely true, that is infallible Catholic teaching.
Sounds a bit like inherency, eh?
