The Pope! 😄

And I do watch and listen to the pope, but it seems that most of the Christians in the US think he is the Antichrist or something. At least that is how it seems to me.

Yes, unfortunately they do...

He gets a bad press sometimes but seems like a nice enough man to me who actually does care about faith...JPII was a power addict if you ask me though...

However, on that note. Its interesting that the Christians who accuse the Pope of being the anti-Christ usually support murdering homosexuals, banning the teaching of evolution, forcing the Palestinians out of Israel...and they all tend to be self-proclaimed Pastors and Teachers whose sermons are filled with bile...

Yet...thats just what I see of them...may not be true for them all 🙂

I have to say that from my point of view, your impression of these people is spot on.

So, what should non-accusing Christians do about it?

Just ignore them...theres nothing we can do.

Tackle their theology and stuff and debate etc, but ultimately...they not going to just disapeer.

But they give Christianity a bad name to the rest of the world.

Well, most people see Catholicism and Christianity as different religions...so its not all that a big deal for me...yet thats washing my hands of the problem.

We can try to educate people and illustrate the differences between the denominations. However, they are not going to abandon their beliefs and and its not my place to ask them too, though I do enjoy the odd challenging a fundy...

Ultimately however, I suspect these Fundies will burn themselves out and be replaced by new ones...

There was a time when the Church suppressed these groups, however we have since moved into a time where thats no longer seen as the right thing to do.

It is a difficult dilemma.

Indeed, it will get worse when these people start to play God...

I think he answered your question in his original post.
Umm...where in Christianity is it written that creation only happened a few thousand years ago?

Many people believe in evolution as an instrument of God...there is no conflict.

There is a conflict between Literal Creationism and Evolution but you identified Christianity.

Some guy decided to go back through the bible and, by calculating the ages mentioned in the bible through the “Dude A begat Dude B” sections, along with the whole “God created the earth in 7 days” part and surmised that the earth was 6,000 years old. The only problem I have with that is (A) what about the gaps, which are never covered by ages, and (B) how long is a God day? I’m being serious? Where do we get that a day has to be 24 hours? Some planets have shorter days, some have longer days. So, how long is a God day?

if gods all powerful why would he need 6 days? let alone 1 second. if he wanted it would be created instantaneously. see your own christian flaws?

I reply with a quote from another thread.

Who says God NEEDED 6 days? Maybe God just wanted to make it in six days. And, as I have said before, what is a God day? To us, a day is 24 hours, one rotation of this planet. Were someone on Mercury a day would be approx. 58 earth days, the time of one rotation of that planet. So, as far as we know, a day to God could be .25 seconds or 25,000 years.

What ever amount of time, to out perspective, he used, he didn't NEED to use it. He just decided to.

so you are then proposing that god is SUBJECT to time and not above it and its creator.

yes you are. you said whatever AMOUNT of time. that means that god had a choice to choose the AMOUNT of time, but wasnt above the very concept of time itself. also, time is a property of this world, a physical one, so it had to be created too, so then how can god do things in TIME when he had to create time along with the universe to begin with.
