I see what you're saying. That's like saying Black-pride or white-pride is racist. It's not.

But I can also see why people may think it's ethnocentric to be "pro-your race" cause alot of people refer to ethnocentrism as a racist ideal

because it places one "race" above others. simple enough yes?
if you have pride in your culture, thats another story entirely

That's essentially what I meant. Having pride in your heritage doesn't make you a racist.

One thing that I have noticed here in America however, is that the term "white pride" is coterminous with racists.

probably because there is no "white culture" there are many cultures among white people. my family is italian and they seem to take pride in it. but to take pride in being 'white' is the same mentallity as belief in 'white america'. yes, many neighborhoods have the disposition of being predominately white, but that does not make it a heritage. exclusionary pride against anyone who, however part of your culture, does not share your appearence... is just racist.

You're actually right about that. 👆

Being "Racist" doesn't mean your a racial bigot, automatically. It means that you place more value in one's race than you do in the individual aspects of the person.

If you look to Race as the defining element of a person's identity, then technically you are racist, regardless of whether or not your opinion of their race is negative or positive.

Indeed.

Too much negativeness was placed on "Northern" culture after the Second World War, and many have since been apprehensive to proclaim their pride in their Teutonic/Germanic heritage....

Of course, I'm descended (in part) from wealthy Scots, so what do I know....

WTFeer Your kindeer What am I a Martian?? Ive never in my life used a saying like that. I say somethings conviently forgotten and Im tagged as "your kind".

I've heard it used before. He simply means "by your logic?" or something along the same lines....

[BTW: Nice name. Mjölnir rocks!]

slavery is in no way covered up in any public school history curriculum (...yet, im sure kansas will attempt it, failing with creationism)

however it is indeed inappropriate to bring up a handful of greedy tribe leaders (often if not always selling of p.o.w.'s or whatever they referred to them as).
it was not mainstream culture in africa to sell slaves, where it was mainstream culture to own or simply condone slavery.

this "africans sold the slaves" is usually the battlecry of racists attempting to absolve the u.s. of any wrongdoing, or to dillude it.

I was not trying to absolve the us of any wrong doing. I was merely pointing out that little fact is usally omitted. it is not that uncommon for people to sell pows. Africans did it, several american Indians did it, aztecs did it ect. More than just a handful did it. You guys sure as hell dont care to label and jump people you dont even know.... Ive got several good friends who are black as well as a of couple cousins. Hell even they think the whole slavery issue has beaten to death and are tired of hearing about it.

yes, evil throughout the world. however i doubt anyone thinks that slavery is only in the history of white people. jews were slaves to africans at one point in history as well.

so...whats the point in bringing it up?

irrelivency. how is this supposed to justify forgetting history, or the social/economic class our system has created, which still exists till this day. such history also helps to squelch the dillusions that our forfathers were saints, practically perfect in every way, and that america is some god sent hero to save the world.

Thats a good question, so then how many people did know that slavery wasn't started in the USA or that many slave traders in Africa were African? It's not common knowledge PVS and its relevence to the topic is that it gives people a bigger picture of slavery as a whole.

um....yes it is

Bigger picture thats why it was brought up and that their are actually people who dont know about the slave trade as a whole. Many people think the slave trade is a strickly and American sin. It was horrible and should never be forgotten but that dosnt make it my sin. Just because it was "my kind" It is relavent and no ones forgetting, I never said anything about forgetting. Its just that not everyone wants to keep throwing it in peoples faces. Also not everyone likes it thrown in their face all the time. Also that even black people get tired of it being tossed around and used as an excuses for hatred. Thats what makes it relevant....................................This thread is going way out of context. People are starting to label and berate other people for nothing. Theirs got to be a better way to discuss it.

Weren't most of the Africans who sold slaves to the Europeans, North African (Arab)?

Seriously...I'd like to know with all jokes aside.
It's kind of like being on the inside of a joke that everyone assumes you get...but I usually don't like those jokes.

Seriously. I'm a white guy in southern Indiana and I'll tell you it doesn't get much more racist than it is right here. Guys are constantly trying to tell me jokes that I just don't want to hear. So I usually don't talk to them. Not all people are that way but you really try to avoid stereotypes around here.

Questions?

I'm well aware that most Whites in the US, are in fact, poor.

Most whites in the US are poor?!? 🤨

Heck most PEOPLE in the US arent poor 😐

Like 15% of people in the US are in the lower class

🤨 Most Americans are poor or working class.

This is how many people precieve the slave trade...

White americans came over and kidnapped the africans who were living happy meaningful lives in harmony, but were enslaved by the evil white americans.

Yeah thats not how it happened...

The slave trade started LONG before american slavery. White Americans came to africa and were sold tribes of slaves from other tribes. They didnt enslave the africans because they felt they were just plain better than them, they did it to make more profit off of work without having to pay for the employment. Basicly using the lodgic, why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free.

This still dosent make slavery right though.

Was Slavery horrible? Yes, it is completely against the american ideal that no man is better than another man.

However that dosent mean we should keep holding onto these thoughts that people deserve repremations.

I mean africans are in NO WAY the only race or ethnicity that has gone through hard times and injustice.

Nearly every race has been in slavery. White, Asian, Black, Latino, you name it.

So people need to stop complaining that they deserve some kind of repremation for what their ancestors went through because guess what.. YOU ARENT SPECIAL!

Um no 😐

Actually the majority of americans are in the middle class.

That and 99.9 % of americans WORK!

I mean do you think that people in the upper class just sit around all day by the pool?!? No, only a small group of people can actually do nothing for a living.

I agree. We all suffer. This "I'm a victim" complex is fkn bullshit.
