Man, after those first 4 episodes this season sure did suck balls. it sure was a good decision to just stop filming. Those were some great episodes.

I don't really see where to go from here.

I love how the entire Ukrainian mafia storyline went absolutely nowhere, just like Louis. Even Quinn just up and got dumped, end of drama. Talk about a wasteful filler.

Its a pattern they have. When a character becomes inconvenient or they decide they've filled enough time with them they just up and disappear, Poochy style. Lumen just randomly decides to leave for no reason. Mike Anderson gets shot 5 minutes into the new season. Louis gets set up as a big deal then goes nowhere and dies. Quinn's girlfriend Lumens it up and splits after an entire season of subplot. Hannah

Spoiler:
splits town.

Its really annoying because it feels like our time has been completely wasted. 60% of this season was filler. When it could have been so damn good.

Also the title of this episode was irritating as hell, as was what it refers to. What a waste of time.

Holy shit...

It's weird this show as been able to maintain quality with the formula it has. Characters and themes are adopted and abandoned like ugly puppies constantly. And I've been lost on what the title refers to... was it
Spoiler:
Deb running in to Dexter at the shipping container a la Doakes?
Or the-- rather welcome-- flashbacks?

And I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Dexter's the protagonist... but Deb's the hero.

Title had me excited for a totally different type of ending

Spoiler:
might spoil for anyone thinking the same as me: Doakes actually being alive (in hiding) and being the main reason she was so persistent that Dexter is the BHB, c'mon you know it makes sense!
Was a good finale but the ending I envisioned made this a little disappointing.

All in all it was a good season but I think the Trinity killer was prob the best season so far!

Nothing tops season 1 for me. And the ending you envisioned sounds like a cheesy soap opera plot twist.

that was also my fear, it it a little far fetched 😕

I just noticed this thread is 6 years old. We've had 7 seasons, 84 episodes, a unique concept for a show, and... there's only been 13 pages worth of posts.

Sad.

I'm not so sure it has maintained quality. The last two seasons have been pretty bad and nobody but me seemed to like season 5. I just hope to god they have something better for next year then Dexter finding someone who accepts his murdering ways and makes him feel human. Thats really become the central theme of the series, when it just doesn't work in a series because season after season we've seen him try it and fail, realising that he's better off as a serial killer for, oh, another week? Thats literally how long his season 6 revelation lasted before ~Hannah~ happened. It's also just really boring. I don't watch this show for a guy trying to connect with [Insert character here], I watch it for Dexter murdering the fvck out of people and being a morally ambiguous social-retard. Its why I liked season 5, because at the heart of it it was still about gutting people like the pigs they are. Man, this became a rant. Phew. Sorry. >_<

The flashbacks. They were completely pointless padding designed to remind us of a good character.

It still has quality, if not the kind it used to. I liked season 5. I've been saying since its finale that if the show was cancelled after it, it would have ended on a great note. Every secondary character gets a happy ending, and Dexter gets a so-so, middle-ground, kinda broke even ending. Appropriate for someone who does good by doing evil.

6 and 7 have just hit reset on everything. Every bit of progress he made as a character all went back to square one once 6 started round. Once again he's trying to: 1.) lead a "normal" life, 2.) understand his dark passenger, 3.) connect with someone, 4.) realize that "something's changed" in his life that'll make him do/think differently. We've been through it all before, it's getting stale.

I won't get tired of preaching it: Deb's the hero. I watch it for--especially after the last episode. For me, it's all about her character progression. Cuz at least she's been consistent in that regard.

I completely agree with everything you just said. I was struggling to put into words my dissatisfaction, but yeah pretty much spot on bro.

Debs progress from fake-hooker to police lieutenant has been one of the great parts of the show imo. I just wish we had more. If we replaced all of Quinns utterly pointless bullshit this season with more scenes of Deb and Dexter discussing stuff then this season could have been really great. I'd be happy with a whole episode of Dexter narrating the crazy shit he's done and his involvement in the story that she hasn't seen and Deb just swearing like a sailor in response.

Spoiler:
La Querta was actually supposed to die in season One, I had a feeling it was coming. Didn't think Deb would do it, the Ice Truck killer was supposed to
. Overall kind of pointless season, which is a shame as it started off so strong.

I know, I was looking forward to all the revelations and discussion between Dex and Deb. I was expecting her to ask "Did you f*cking kill Doakes?" I wanted him to tell her about the nurse he killed that saved Harry's life-- with Harry's permission. I wanted him to open up about killing Jimenez, and Lila, and Miguel and the Skinner. Make him properly explain and actually show us Deb's moral struggle to weigh the pros and cons, instead of just saying it's there.

This show could have very easily been about both characters. One of them representing what the average person behaves like and what's expected they do, and the other representing what we often want to be to do and wish we could do. The dynamic between those two opposing moral dilemmas instilled in two very close, co-dependent siblings would have been an amazing story to develop. Instead we just have the on/off-again relatable Dexter as the main character, with the far more compelling Debra being incidentally involved.

Side note: I was crossing my fingers in the last episode that they wouldn't pull the worst cliche in the dramatic book. Angel was just two days away from retirement...

This season is really living up to lasts. I didn't know which direction they were going to take, but I must say each episode just keeps getting better.

Agreed

Really? It became pretty lackluster in the second half.

I'm so involvded with how Dexter acts as if there are three if not four worlds you peer into as the season profess.. The normal world. The world through the eyes of Dexter.. His interaction with the normal world.. And then through the eyes of Harry. O and also the serial killers he is attempting to murder.. It's just to tell written and can be looked at from
Way to Manu angles not to be
Excellent all the time.

The new Season 8 Offical Trailer:

YouTube video

Got excited when I saw Doakes around the 1.51 mark but I also saw trinity just before that reducing the possibility of a Doakes return (which I wouldn't mind).

It looks like a promising final season.

Doakes was just a callback image.

I get the feeling that either Dexter or Deb is going to kill the other.

I'm guessing Dexter will die doing this super heroic thing. Possibly after everyone finds out about him and he goes on the run. I have no idea about whats going to happen to Deb though.
