Profanity and manners, just as annoying as political correctness.

Is that what you learn in the Hitler Youth?

Your relentlessly dogmatic and prejudiced views perplex me

Power does not translate into intelligence. Yes, we are still the most powerful nation at the moment, but by no means the smartest. The legacy of America that came from great presidents like Jefferson or FDR is being squandered by presidents like Reagan or G.W. Bush

Kindly think before you reach for the text box 😉

Not that I'm defending KidRock, but I call bullshit. How do you defend that? And I read your post about the H-bomb and prominent American citizens being born in Britain, I don't buy it. i'm not going to dispute the H-bomb, but let me elaborate on that second point you made:

You're government has always piggy-backed ours, in-fact, we're your only ally.
The U.S. government had nothing to do with the British government when it was created. It was in fact designed to be ideologically the opposite of British government. The U.S. separated from Britain because it wanted nothing to do with it.

And about Britain being our only ally, that's because both Tony Blair and Dubya are incompetent and unpopular politicians, and they tend to clump.

So, to reiterate: how do you get off saying that we wouldn't be anything without Britain?

I realize I'm derailing the thread like this, but I think the topic should be addressed. If it gets out of hand i'll start it's own thread

And you probably feel that way because of your parents demanding you say thank you right? It's the same with religion. All these silly rules and morals, even though we need them like we need a Batman costume on Halloween.

I'm sure he did use the gifts, but I don't remember smiles.

O.O Demanding? Haha...just because my parents taught me manners, doesn't mean they're demanding ^-^

I still don't understand how 'thank you' is so difficult to say *shrugs* it's such a simple thing.

It's not difficult, but when people say you should say it, it's like WTF? Why say it? I sometimes say it, I admit. But why do people say it? They feel like it's the right thing to do. Like it's a must. Which it isn't.

Please is even worse.

I could reply to this and prove you wrong, but it's off-topic, and I don't want that. I think it's best we ignore this.

*nods* Yeah, I'm not the type to pressure people into doing things...haha.

O.O you do? I was under the impression that you were strongly against it ^-^

Not always, some people want to say it. I can't help but say it...it just sort of comes out automatically, and I'm glad it does too.

Haha...why's that?

😂 Okay...

I can't help it. 🙁

Why are you glad that you say something without knowing so? For all you know "Thank you" could be offensive to someone in a different country, like Indonesia for example.

Because Please is just a word you add on the end of a sentence to make you look polite and more important. To me, saying please for something is rude and an excuse to act posh and polite, without actually talking in big sentences. emanding someone say please is as bad as making someone read the Bible.

Hang on ^-^ haha...you're against it, but you say it sometimes?

Haha ^-^ whoops, came out a little wrong. I know when I say it, but I meant that it seems automatic, because I was brought up to use my manners.

Saying please is rude? O.O Most people would disagree with that^^ haha.

It's not my fault, it's how I was raised. 🙁

Which is why it's bad.

😂 Yes, but I don't see how saying Please means anything but "Now you must do it because I asked nicely". After all, is not just an excuse to seem polite and posh?

*nods* I understand.

that's your opinion, and that's fine ^-^ but I think that manners are a good thing.

O.o well, when requesting something, it's polite to say it, yes. Posh though? *taps chin* IMO, no. I don't feel superior when I say it, I just think it's a decent, polite thing.

Hmm, which is more polite?

"Give me that please!" OR "I would be grateful if you would be so kind to pass me that."

Is please really more polite? I don't think people should say please to look polite, but talking calm and using less demanding words are better, don't you think?

-.-

O.O I've never seen a person raise their voice while using the word 'please' ^-^ it doesn't make sense....it's like they're angry, but they want to be polite...haha.

Your second example is still polite, but I've never seen a person use it. 'Please' is much more simple 🙂

Better? Well, either is good, as long as you avoid rudeness (speaking generally there)

What...? People have explained to you, factually, what the word actually means, and you are still sitting there saying "I don't see how...". Well then that's just too bad, isn't it? You don't see how this all works, that's your own problem, it doesn't make you right.

How you were raised is a bs excuse, for the record.

Ermm, I was the one that mentioned what it means.

And I never said "I don't see how" it's the fact that the word is practically meaningless, that I have a problem with. Why make someone say it, when it has no meaning?

What are you on about? You said "I don't see how...", it's in my quote.

Second, it's not a meaningless word. It FACTUALLY has meaning, whether or not you mean the implications brought up by saying the word is another thing, as previously stated. It has nothing to do with the fact that the word has a meaning. If by meaningless you mean that it's said all too often, then that simply means it's become a frivolous and insincere term, it doesn't subtract from the meaning of the actual word.

You don't see where it does, or why it does, but that is just your problem. You're being too stupid to notice that you're not making any sense at all.

Nobody is trying to make anybody say anything.

Ermm, have you ever heard about parents telling their children to say please and thankyou? Did you know that by saying please, without knowing, (like a reflex) just proves my point on how manners is stupid. Did you know that most people do what you say without hearing please, and those who do ask for please get shunned upon? Did you know that saying please is as necessary as toilet seat covers?

Manners are not needed, nor do they make people polite. They are however, wrong to be forced upon minors. Much like telling people to readthe Bible, as I've already said.

Let's go back to your original point: Please is meaningless.

Everybody's counter: It has factual meaning, whether you mean it or not is different.

Whether you believe manners in general are necessary or not has no bearing on whether the word "Please" has a meaning, which it does.

xyz, please shut up.

See, it has many meanings.

In all honesty, if you are still asking what it means, you should step away from the debate. It means what it says "Please".

You are obviously having a great deal of trouble grasping that. Don't think manners are necessary? Fine, but this argument is getting dumb.
