Military Draft

By your definition of a free government, if they require anything from you then you are being oppressed.

Edit: Even in an anarchist society you still wouldn’t be “free” because the strongest will start to oppose there will over the weaker.

No sir, I accept certain duties to get certain securities...risking my life for it is not one of them, since it so totally goes against the securities I a supposed to be granted by accepting a government. aybe you didn't notice, but you live in Anarchy. All around you there is anarchy. You choose to give up some freedoms for protection and sadly you are also forced to give up freedoms cause others are more powerful (society). when you are forced to risk your life you are oppressed without the benefits you want and should get from a society. that is wrong to me.

I love that quote 🙂 we used it all the time in the Navy 😛

So true, probably the safest branch, but in no way the least useful 🙂

I would have to say the Air Force is the safest for the most part; they are mostly in a base. The pilots on the other hand and in trouble.

Another fav Navy joke: What is the only requirement for being in the Coast Guard?
Answer: Being 6' tall, so when you ship sinks you can walk to shore. 😆

Gah, of course... technicians and the likes. So it's tied between Navy and non-pilot airforce.

Navy Joke:

Q: Why do Squids use shredded soap?

A: It takes longer to pick up. 😂

-----------------

Marine Joke:

Q: Why do Squids keep Jarheads on their ships?

A: Because sheep would be too obvious!

It's all about the Army! Hooah!

That's because the Chair Force doesn't do anything but sit on their ass all day.

Well now that it's kinda died down a bit, I'd like to add my 2 pennies if I may...

Let me first start by saying I appreciate all the responses thus far. Many of you have made very good pts. It's been a pretty good discussion.

I'd especially like to thank all the veterans and active members of our military for their comments. I worked in a VA hospital for a couple of yrs so I'm no stranger when it comes to witnessing the casualties of war first hand.

A few things that I noticed...

LOL...I luv how some are still using the response of 'well I'll just flee to Canada.' Also, I believe there was someone who said something along the lines of well it doesn't matter because they prob wouldn't use conscripts in active duty anyway, they would just have them perform other duties or roles such as typing up reports...lol....Yeah so let me get this straight they'll go through the trouble of drafting specifically young males between the ages of 18-26 just so they could be used in non combat roles. Well, if you believe that then I have this property in Brooklyn that I'd like to sell to ya 😉 <- I always forgot how that joke went.

Some of you really need to read up on Vietnam and how mandatory military service works in other countries as well before continuing to post. Btw, another little tidbit of info. in case you weren't aware of it, the great Muhammad Ali was thrown in jail for not fighting in Vietnam. Yes Muhammad Ali, so what do you think this administration would do to you if you chose not to go? Gitmo anyone?

Also, there was a good point someone made about us in this case being the invaders and how the country we invade is expected to react, somewhat turning the tables on that argument.

One last question I'd like to pose and I address this specifically to the Veterans and those in active military service right now. And I'd like only the real members who have served or are currently serving to please answer. I know there are a few little posers here who act like they are or who wish to serve in the future, kinda like little boys longing to be firemen when they grow up, which is all fine and good but again I'd like only those real members to respond...

Would you in all honesty have no problem whatsoever going to War for someone whom asked you to go, when he didn't go himself?

Forget about your country and the patriotism for a moment, the question just basically boils down to, Would you got to war for a man who chose not to do it himself when asked?

I know for some of you this would be a redundant question after having already made your choice but I'd like to get your feelings on it anyway. Did you have no reservations whatsoever about the choice you made?

I love it. "I don't have shit else to say, so I'll be annoying! That will make me look smart and let me leave with my tail between my legs at the same time!"

That's exactly what I'm saying. There's some idiots who actually believe that the US Armed Forces would go through all the trouble of drafting just because the kitchen is short of a few cooks. 🙄

Yes. The six years I spent in the Army, I was absolutely ready for war.

And there's nothing wrong with a war-time president who never tasted combat himself. Just look at FDR. A civvie can handle a war just as good or perhaps even better than a veteran.

I always wanted to be a pilot. So it's the air force for my fat lazy ass or a comfy couch in europe.

You're forgetting a major point here: Most people think the world started in 1990.

So, I met this guy at the gym today who kept going on and on about how the draft is real and it's definitely coming and soon. I know there's been plenty of talk about this before but it does seem like the US military now more than ever is becoming increasingly thin.

So my obvious question is do you think a mandatory military draft is imminent? Why or why not?

Sadly, I think it is a necessary evil. Furthermore, I'd be all for an amendment in the Constitution forcing teenagers to serve 2 mandatory years in an armed force after graduating high school, before they went on to college.

This would do 2 things: teach some discipline and make for a more combat ready nation.

Peace.

These kind of posts are frustrating.

Okay, I give in. It was actually a favorable response to your post. Your post cited a historical figure, and I confirmed your opinion by stating that many people, particularly those born 1988 and later, think the world started when they were born. Therefore, they cannot associate any logic from people, places, or concepts that originated in the past and learn from them.

Gotcha.
