Thanks for your response...and "thumbs up" on your exams...hope you "ace" them with a good grade. I know how you feel...when I was in the university, I was always under "tension" until they were over...it was always hair, teeth and eyeball time!

O.K...until then...be well and may God bless you always.

Hey again Marchello ..Well thanx I did my best in the exams ..

What do u mean by human born a sinner ?If god will forgive all sins then why put rules to follow like not to steal or kill ..do u think that will encourge people to live freely and break these rules becuase that they Guarantee going to heaven ..
Do u have atext in bible that said that jesus is the creator or god(except th sun of god)?

Thanks

Did I guess right? This is clearly telling you to remove the things from your life that tempt you to sin.

It wasn't that quote though....there was a quote in the Old Testament, not the New Testament, that stated if you "sin with your eye" you must gauge your eyeball out.....it referred to a situation where if you are married and you look at another man or woman with lust, then you have to remove your eyeball.

You will argue this is just a metaphor, but how do you know what is metaphor and what should be taken literal ? That's my next question.

How Hammurabi-esq and extremely creepy that seems less metaphorical than the other I'l

What do you want to see in the bible?

Ironically, that is actually Matthew 5:28-29, the two preceeding verses.
"28) But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a women to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. 29) And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."

Here Jesus teaches us that sin originates in heart, which is true. However, he then goes on telling us that things that 'offend' us (more literally 'cause us to stumble'😉 we should remove them from our lives. Knowing what is a metaphor is often tricky, however, we know from the rest of his life story that he never actually practiced or encouraged these things among his followers even when they did sin, strongly suggesting that that was not his intention. When Jesus told Peter that Peter would deny him three times, Jesus did not tell him to slit his tongue so that he wouldn't. We can also see that it was apparent to Jesus's disciples that it was metaphor because none of them practiced that teaching literally. However, the disciples would later preach on the cleansing or washing of one's heart and accepting the Holy Spirit in order to effect change on the inside. By this we understand that the disciples knew it to be a metaphor. Furthermore, from my understanding the language usually indicates a literary device, just as a similie is obvious to us, but I do not know if this is true in this case.

I agree totally. My point is that he divorces Catholicism from christianity. That's ignorant. It's ignorant of history and reality.

And, truth be known, Marchello need not attack anyone until he takes jesus' advice and removes the plank from his own eye.

I noticed that the majority of topics in the religion forum center around Christianity and its God. God gets either praised or bashed, and Jesus gets either idolized or made fun of.

Well what about SATAN ?

Why are thier SO FEW THREADS dedicated to him ?

This is the OFFICIAL SATAN THREAD !

Please feel free to worship, praise, bless, insult, curse, or critisize SATAN in any way you choose !

I think there needs to be a BALANCE. We have lots of Christians promoting God's word....we have lots of Athiests and Agnostics ignoring God's word, but we dont have ANYBODY speaking on behalf of the good ol' devil.

Hey...even demons deserve thier shine !

SO !!!! ALL YOU DIRTY LITTLE SINNERS !

ON YOUR KNEES ! droolio

BEND OVER !!! droolio

AND PRAY TO YOUR NEW LORD AND MASTER SATAN !

SO SPEAKS THE ANTI CHRIST !!!!

😆 *I cant WAIT til JIA reads this !

My oppinion is that people get caught up in believing that the devil is purely evil based solely on what mortal men wrote in the Bible.

Break it down and think to yourself, "why is the devil really bad"?

You will find that he was dubbed "evil" because he simply refused to obey God's every command, and once that happened, Satan is automatically the "king of evil?"

Thats like when you were younger, telling your parents that you didn't want to do the dishes, and then they beat the crap out of you, threw ya out of the house, and then preceded to talk shit about you for the rest of your life.

If there is a God, and he is so arrogant that when someone dosen't obey him, they are defamed for all of Eternity........ Well that's not really a God I'd want to follow. 😕

Consider your post above. How many times has something like that happened in real life? A son rebels against the controlling father and sets out to make his own life and is rejected by the father.

I agree.

I guess my main point was that it seems rediculous that simply because Satan rebelled against God, and defied his word, we as humans mainly look at Satan as the incarnation of pure evil.

If evil is not doing what God would want us to and being contrary to God's will, which is the Christian definition of evil, and Satan does not do anything in line with God's will, he is the de facto "incarnation of pure evil" as far as Christian theology goes.
