I know, why did Jack have to do all the sacrificing in this dang Trilogy?....I just don't get that why every time he showed his good side, let his heart rule over his head he did not receive the just rewards......Poor Jack....

On the other hand when Will was sometimes quite selfish,he's got Elizabeth. 😕

I just have a question about the big fight scene in AWE.
Why didn't he stab the heart before William was stabbed?

More drama.....dear....my husband actually said the same thing...he said Jack stalled on purpose...but that's only because he is jealous of Jack.....LOL......

I think Jack was just rubbing it in to Davey that he had the upper hand, as usual Jack underestimated his enemy and I don't think he counted on Davey turning around so quickly and stabbing Will...but it's a movie....so to make it more dramatic that's why they did it that way......that's my only exlanation for it....

Oh okay thanks. 🙂

What would happen if Davy stabbed his own heart?

He would die and flying dutchman wouldn't have a captain 😄 If someone stabbed Will's heart ship wouldn't have a captain too. BUT flying dutchman must have a captain, so maybe Calypso would bring Norrie back and he would become a captain or she would call Jack for help? 😄

yep...that's what's still a mystery to me, some say that because liz is faithful for 10 years, the curse is broken, but....the Flying Dutchman must have a captain, so who will be Captain, what happens to Willl's heart, it seems to me the only way is to stab the heart, but then Will would be dead just like Davey......very, very confusing...one of the very many unsolved mysteries that left AWE in one big mess....

This part I don't get. DJ cut off his heart after 10 years of being a captain of flying dutchman, because he was betrayed by Calypso. What has heart to do with becoming a captain of FD? It was Calypso who chose him for captain. But the heart must be replaced by other heart in order to change the captain. However I think this is not the right way. Calypso should choose the captain. Maybe after releasing from human bonds she didn't care about it anymore. Will's heart should be replaced by other heart. It seems that once the heart is put into chest the captain must fulfill his duties for 10 years. After that time Jack or anyone can become a captain. Maybe there's no need to stab Will's heart, maybe it can just be replaced in the chest. Will would keep his in the jar 😄

I think that people assume that if you stab the heart you take over the job of Dutchman. If you kill Jones it seems logical to follow the idea that then you would become captain...

However, it does seem that Calypso has a role in choosing.

My guess is that the heart and the captaincy are not as intertwined as it is believed in the film. The only way to save Will's life was for him to kill Jones and have his heart replace DJ's. BUT Will doesn't become captain right away. Instead, he seems to die, then his heart is cut out, and interestingly enough, Calypso pulls the Dutchman into her.

When they surfaced, everyone seemed surprised that they were human again, and Bootstrap looks almost shocked when he looks up and sees Will. I wonder if Calypso passed some sort of judgement on Will in order for him to be captain. They were underwater for quite some time, weren't they?

I don't have a problem with Will's heart if the curse is broken. It seems rather likely that it would be replaced when he is restored to life via the green flash, or it would simply remain in the chest. Whether he'd be immortal or not is the next question, but even that doesn't pose a serious problem, since there seem to be any number of ways to remain immortal (I'm talking 'bout Liz here) in the Pirates world.

JoanJoan to be more specific to your question on what the heart has to do with captaining, what I think Jones was doing was binding himself to the Dutchman for forever. He was betrayed in love, so he tore his heart out and locked it away, hid it from the world, and tied himself to the Dutchman for forever, claiming then that whoever stabbed the heart must take his place and sail for forever.

But since DJ changed the 'curse' (or did he really?), I think Will could be the one to not only restore the Dutchman to it's proper duty, but also to restore the original intent of the job of captain...to sail for ten years and then if he has a true love waiting on land for him, to be released.

And you're right, I don't think Will's heart needs to really go anywhere else. I think once the curse is broken, then DJ's heart curse would be broken as well, so no one else has to stab hearts and all that. 😄

This is the Sparrabeth thread, right? Um...

Question!

Let's say hypothetically Will died in the final battle, say before he marries Liz and Jack managed to get the heart. Right?

And then Jack gets the heart on the Dutchman and is forced to stab it to save Elizabeth (man, this should be made into a fanfiction), how would you have felt if Jack had become captain and got married to Liz

Would you have the some issues as you do with Will and Elizabeth and the curse. And I'm not saying you ALL have issues or that you're complaining and all that. I've just noticed that lots of complaints about W/E have been based around the curse, so I'm curious if the ending had been J/E if you would have been upset as well. 😄

Please note that I am not trying to argue. 🙂

Quick edit: I have to say, I don't think Will was anymore selfish than anyone else has been in the film.

And I agree with you, lovethemtigers about why Jack didn't stab the heart right away. Jack just underestimated what a true bastard DJ was. Plus he was probably seeing what he could get out of DJ. See? We are capable of agreeing on occassion. 😄

jack is always trying to get the best deal out of whatever situation hes in.

^^thats way true. though i cant see why Jack felt bad about Davy killing Will...

Yeah! He made a mistake though with underestimating DJ.

Surreal...my problem with WE is not at all based on the curse. So I can't answer your question. I think Elizabeth waited for him willingly. If Elizabeth had even a second thought about waiting for him and he asked her to wait...that would make him a bastard but...

Yes Will has been selfish on occassions but I don't find anything wrong with that. The only thing that bugs me (just a little) is that in AWE he became TOO selfish. The only thing he cared about was Elizabeth/dad/himself and as I said...nothing wrong with it just wanted to see a few glimpses of of his own selfless self he used to be in 1 and 2.

Like how used to act in the benifit of everyone and stuff but I guess he had too much to do. It would be exhausting to be heroic on the side too.

My reasons for not liking WE as much as JE is entirely different. That's why I think my reasons are valid...I understand how great WE (I've listend to WE POVs for longer than I can remember) is but I still see more potential in Sparrabeth.

See picture for more detail.

um...SPARRABETH!!!

Hehe! LOVE that pic. as you said:......................SPARRABETH!!!

Surreal....that's just it...my problem with W/E..for me and I believe I speak for many others...the lack of chemistry between Will and Elizabeth, to me they were boring to watch. What happened between them in AWE was forced, they had to work at it...where as with Liz and Jack it just came naturally......the chemistry between them is amazing. Sex and chemistry make for a better sale than sweet pure love....that's just the gist of it......I think the love/hate between Jack and Liz was what made them the more interesting couple.....and besides there was so much more between them.....we watched them develop, Will and Liz was just there and after everything was said and done with the Trilogy I still felt no deep connection between Liz and Will, but I guess that's just me, maybe I'm being stubborn about it, or maybe I just don't get it....

SPARRABETH...

it just looks so natural, them standing side by side on the Pearl, looking out to sea, the wind blowing in their hair and talking about freedom and curiosity......

funny pic of keira hehe

lol! Yeah...she looks...look at her eyes! She's diggin' Jack.

I'm with u 100% Tigers...with JE?! It's just between them which ever way you slice it. It's there and you can't do anything about it...not just between the actors but there's a lot tension between the characters and WE just need so much plot issues, stories etc. to make them interesting.
They need to go through a series of none sense just to show that "Oh! Yeah! By the way....we're hot together. We've come a long way and we still love eachother."

Happens EVERY DAY...JE?! Happens 1 in a 1000000000000000000000000!!!!!!!!!!

Surreal_44 Thanks for your opinion about the heart of the captain of FD. 🙂

tee_pirategirl I've never seen this kind of tension between two characters before. They were made for each other.

aww! i love that last pic!! ADORABLE!!
