They believe it's finally time to put the 1978 origin story with Marlon Brando to rest.
I just feel like we've been told his origin many times. The 1978 movie on the big screen plus various tellings on the small screen including Smallville which was basically a 10 year long Origin story, and only finished this year!
I personally dnt think anyone really wants to sit through another Origin story for Supes.

The last movie traded heavily on it, and looked what happened.
They could have just made a Superman movie without any references to the Original movie, and without telling an origin story.
Also with that movie it would have helped if it had some action instead of just being a boring romantic.

i still dont see the villain thing. i want to see more of zod. one of the better actors will be playing him.
I did a little comparison image to show you where I'm coming from. Now I know this is just an image and that this isn't the full range of Cavill's expressions in the role its just the first impression thats quite misleading.
Now even though Vosloo's posture is different (and black and white) the facial expression is completely alike, in fact if you shaved Cavill's hair off and kept the same expression it would be even more alike in respect to the widows peak. And Vosloo's character is unrepentantly evil in Hard Target and in this particular shot it just screams at you.

That would depend on the writer though wouldn't it? I'm only asking because I'm not that knowledgeable about the history of the character but I've read there are some who make him weaker/stronger. Some who allow the suit/cape to be torn up and some that don't - things like that.
they do, but it generally takes a little time in most cases.

First look at Henry Cavill as Sperman.
As for Cavill himself...his face/hair reminds me of George Reeves from the 1950s TV series, and he made a good Superman.
I hope they handle the film as creatively.
Possible synopsis revealed during casting calls:
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.
